Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Eugene Bradley Burns! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roger Daltrey! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daltrey fails with an attempt to clinch.
Daltrey throws a head kick that misses. Burns takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Burns looks to land a combination but Daltrey avoids it well. Burns shoots in looking for a takedown. Daltrey tries to sprawl out of it but Burns keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Daltrey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Daltrey is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Daltrey misses with a takedown and Burns counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Daltrey's guard now. Burns drops back looking for a leg! Daltrey is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Daltrey manages to kick Burns off! Burns jumps back into Daltrey's guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Daltrey can do anything to dispel that myth. Daltrey is pulling down on Burns's head to control his posture. Burns wants to pass the guard but Daltrey is keeping the position. Burns wants to stand but Daltrey is controlling his posture from full guard. Burns stops Daltrey from standing up. Burns missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Burns is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Daltrey is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Daltrey has escaped and now he's on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Burns has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Daltrey can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Burns is breathing heavily. Daltrey thows a big elbow that misses. Daltrey slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Burns escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Daltrey gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Daltrey trying to control the position from guard on top but Burns is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Burns is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Daltrey has his hands clasped together but Burns extends an breaks Daltrey's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Burns.
