The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Basic is trying hard to land a takedown here. Newton sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Basic gets caught flat footed, as Newton shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Newton wants to control from the top but Basic keeps moving.
Newton sitting in guard here, content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Newton wanted to stand there but Basic had control of the position.
Newton stands up over Basic, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Basic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Newton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Newton pushes down on Basic's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Basic is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Newton pulls his head out easily.
