Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Cortez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nycky Downtime! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Downtime checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Downtime drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Downtime drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Cortez dives on top into guard. Cortez wants to pass the guard but Downtime is keeping the position. Cortez showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Cortez trying to control but Downtime is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cortez looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Downtime trying to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Downtime looking for a sweep. Not yet Downtime, not yet. Cortez wants to control from the top but Downtime keeps moving.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Downtime looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Cortez circles away from the clinch attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Downtime lands with a left to the head. Downtime scores with an uppercut up the middle. Cortez fails to pull the fight into his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Downtime postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cortez holds on and takes a little breather. Cortez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Downtime won't allow Cortez to sweep him here. Downtime trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Cortez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cortez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Downtime manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cortez wants to control from the top but Downtime keeps moving. Downtime wants to sweep but no luck. Downtime pulls Cortez in close to prevent any damage. Cortez preventing the sweep. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nycky Downtime dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Downtime tries to clinch up. Downtime feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Cortez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. That's one minute gone in the round. Cortez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Downtime can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Cortez throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Cortez stuffs the takedown attempt from Downtime. Downtime gets slowly back to his feet. Downtime tries to clinch but Cortez is having none of it. The fight stays on the outside here - Downtime looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Downtime looks to land a combination but Cortez avoids it well. Cortez shoots in looking for a takedown. Downtime tries to sprawl out of it but Cortez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Downtime manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Cortez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Downtime misses with a two punch combination.
Cortez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Downtime misses with a few strikes there.
Downtime is looking to clinch. Downtime darts in and clinches Cortez up against the cage. Downtime avoiding damage.
Cortez takes an elbow to the forehead. Cortez wants to get back to striking at distance but Downtime won't allow it.
A nice left hand lands by Downtime.
Cortez changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Downtime fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jose Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cortez shoots in for a takedown but Downtime shows good takedown defense. Downtime closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cortez to the mat! Cortez manages to get full guard.

Cortez is keeping the position for now. Cortez has control of Downtime's left arm, preventing Downtime from doing any damage. Cortez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Downtime wants to control from the top but Cortez keeps moving. Downtime prevents Cortez from getting back to his feet. Cortez is trying to keep Downtime in close.

Cortez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Downtime swivels and escapes. Downtime clinches up with Cortez and pushes him back against the cage. Downtime softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Downtime is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Cortez gets underhooks to prevent Downtime's takedown attempt.

Nycky Downtime showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Downtime scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Downtime tries to bum rush Cortez with a series of wild strikes but Cortez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. The fight stays on the outside here - Downtime looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jose Cortez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Downtime tries to clinch but Cortez is having none of it. The fighters circling - Cortez throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Downtime will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Cortez controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Cortez postures up in Downtime's guard and throws a big left but Downtime blocks it.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Downtime throws a leg kick that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A punch combination from Downtime misses. Downtime gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Cortez to score an easy takedown into full guard. Downtime is looking to stand up but Cortez isn't so interested in that idea. Downtime has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Cortez has passed into side control.
You can see the frustration on Downtime's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

And that's the end of the fight! Jose Cortez showed his dominance in that final round. Well Downtime has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
