PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Micheal Corleto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitch Layden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Corleto might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Purple Rain. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Micheal Corleto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mitch Layden!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Layden throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Layden connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Corleto momentarily.

Layden closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Corleto to the mat! Corleto manages to get full guard.
Corleto is trying to control the position but Layden postures up.
Layden controlling from the top position.
Corleto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Corleto keeping moving, preventing Layden from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Corleto trying to control the position.
Corleto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Layden on the ground.
Layden not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Layden takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Micheal Corleto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Layden fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Corleto avoids it really well and circles away.
Corleto tries to clinch up.
Corleto lands with a thumping leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Layden doesn't manage to clinch there - Corleto circles away.
Corleto throws a head kick but Layden moves out of range.

Layden throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Corleto was covering up waiting for the punch and Layden finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Layden landing with the ground and pound.
Corleto keeping moving, preventing Layden from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Layden trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Layden is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Corleto has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Layden can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Corleto wants to control the position but Layden says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Layden lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Layden missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Layden is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Corleto defends it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Layden works his way into side control.
Layden looks gassed!
Layden takes a little break here. Corleto wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Corleto tries to escape but Layden is in control.
Layden working away.
Corleto is not content to let Layden control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mitch Layden dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Corleto throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Layden's head.

Corleto clinches up against the cage.
Corleto displaying some good clinch control by pressing Layden up against the cage.
Corleto lands a right hand that snaps the head of Layden backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Corleto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick misses from Corleto.
Layden tries to clinch up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Corleto fails with an attempt to clinch.
Corleto tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Corleto has his takedown stuffed

and Layden counters with a nice double leg into side control. Corleto won't be happy with that.

Layden is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Corleto knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Corleto is trying to control Layden's posture but Layden avoids it.

Layden is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Corleto looks calm but he's in trouble here. Layden gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Corleto is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Layden lets go of the hold and Corleto can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mitch Layden!
