Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Will Sams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marc Montes! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Nard Betker and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Montes is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Montes fails in his attempt to clinch. Sams fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Montes is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Sams misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Montes fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sams shoots for a double leg takedown but Montes sprawls well. He's pushed Sams's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Sams. That's going to take a lot out of him. Montes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sams sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Montes somewhat. Sams tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nice sprawl there from Sams as Montes shoots in. Montes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sams tries to avoid it but Montes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sams to the ground. Sams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Montes tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sams swivels and escapes. Montes shoots and misses and Sams counters with a nice double leg into side control. Montes won't be happy with that.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sams tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Sams looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Montes is avoiding damage well.
Montes is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Montes can't do much from the bottom here. Sams trying to control the position but Montes is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Sams tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Montes can do anything to dispel that myth. Montes is looking for a sweep. Sams wants to control but Montes is keeping him busy.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Nice takedown defense from Sams. No joy for Montes on that attempt. Marc Montes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sams fails with a takedown attempt. Sams is breathing heavily. Montes clinches with his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Montes is trying to keep Sams in close.
Montes looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sams looking to sit in guard and control but Montes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Montes lands a couple of elbows. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Will Sams will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Montes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Montes showed some decent athleticism there. Montes wants to control but Sams is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ground and pound from Montes. Sams avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Montes. Sams is looking to improve his position.
Montes gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Montes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Montes closes the distance but Sams moves to the side and Sams decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Montes's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sams looking to sit in guard and control but Montes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Sams looking for a sweep. Not yet Sams, not yet. Montes decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Sams takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Montes throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
It looks like Will Sams has been cut. Montes gets in close and instigates a clinch. Sams takes a knee right on the jaw!
Montes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Montes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sams changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Montes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Montes gets back to half guard. Montes is looking to control Sams's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Montes avoid being mounted? Sams seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Montes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Montes wants to get back to full guard. Sams wants to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Montes has one foot on Sams's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Montes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sams sprawls well. Sams wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Montes gets slowly back to his feet. A right-left combo lands from Sams. Montes tries to clinch up but Sams circles away and keeps his distance. Montes closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Sams tries to break the clinch but Montes is controlling the position. Sams letting Montes take a breather here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Montes manages to break the clinch.
Montes clinches up with Sams and pushes him back against the cage. Montes connects with a nasty looking knee right to Sams's face.

Montes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Sams shoots in but Montes avoids the takedown attempt easily. Montes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Montes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Montes has control of Sams's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Sams regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Montes wants to control the pace but Sams is squirming around nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marc Montes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Will Sams's cut. That's time! Sams's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

That's one minute gone in the round. Montes shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Sams's guard. Sams knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Montes on the ground. Sams is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Montes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Sams scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Sams decides to stand back up. Sams fails with the takedown and Montes counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Montes breaks from the clinch.

Montes clinches. Sams is looking to break free of the clinch but Montes has double underhooks. Montes is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sams can't fight it off and eventually Montes manages to take the fight to the floor. Sams looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Montes gets to his feet. Sams looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Montes wants to clinch up but Sams keeps it at a distance. Montes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sams throws a sloppy head kick and Montes moves out of range easily. Montes shoots in but Sams avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sams closes the distance and clinches up with Montes, looking for a takedown. Sams pushes Montes against the cage but Montes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sams stuffs the takedown attempt from Montes. Montes gets slowly back to his feet. Sams tries to clinch up. Sams tries to clinch up. Montes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Montes has his takedown stuffed and Sams counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Montes's guard now. Sams stops Montes from standing up. Montes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Montes wants to get back to his feet but Sams is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sams is looking to stand up but Montes won't let him. Montes is trying to control the position but Sams postures up. Montes looking for a sweep. Not yet Montes, not yet. Sams is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Montes keeping full guard, as Sams tries to pass.
