PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Skippy McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Angle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Angle has chosen Domination as his entrance music. Justin Angle has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Skippy McGee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Justin Angle!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angle fails in his attempt to clinch.
McGee shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Angle as he jumps to the side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Angle works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Angle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of McGee is proving hard to escape from.

Angle stands and steps away. McGee gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
McGee shoots in for a takedown but Angle shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
McGee dives in and grabs Angle's left leg, looking for a takedown. Angle pushes down on McGee's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Skippy McGee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McGee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Angle but Angle pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Angle gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and McGee counters with a three punch combo that has Angle backing up. Angle nods at McGee to acknowledge the strikes.

so McGee counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Angle is controlling McGee's posture.

Angle's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

McGee thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Angle preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McGee stands and throws Angle's legs to the side, diving into side control.

McGee tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McGee has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
McGee takes a little break here. Angle wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Angle is not content to let McGee control the position.

Angle is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but McGee is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Skippy McGee dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Angle misses with a takedown

and McGee counters with a shoot takedown. Angle fights it but they end up in guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Skippy McGee.

and McGee counters with a takedown into side control.
McGee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Angle keeps working.
McGee wants to control for a moment but Angle uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

McGee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

McGee decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

and Angle counters with a stiff right hand.

Angle misses with a double jab

and McGee decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Angle's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Angle tries to roll over but McGee keeps him under control.
McGee is taking a breather. Angle says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
McGee's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Angle throws a nice looking combination but McGee bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Angle avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
McGee stuns Angle with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
McGee fails with the takedown
and Angle counters with a three punch combo that has McGee backing up. McGee nods at Angle to acknowledge the strikes.

Angle takes the fight into the clinch.
Angle can't find room to land a body shot as McGee controls the action.
Angle is trying to stall.

McGee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Angle does no damage.
Angle throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McGee.

and Angle counters by moving into the clinch.

McGee manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Angle throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McGee works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Angle postures up.
Angle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of McGee is proving hard to escape from.
Angle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Angle looking to sit in guard and control but McGee gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
McGee is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
McGee wants to control from the top but Angle keeps moving.
McGee passes Angle's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
McGee passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Angle!

Skippy McGee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Angle wants to hold on but McGee pushes him away.

McGee will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

McGee breaks from Angle's wrist control and lands an elbow.

And that's the end of the fight!
Skippy McGee showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McGee, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
