Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Brain!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cross drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Brain tries to buck Cross off but Cross is having none of it.
Brain is working to avoid the ground and pound but Cross connects with a decent elbow.
Cross lands a few punches from side control.
Cross scoring with punches and elbows.
Cross working the head and body with strikes.
Brain is looking for a sweep.
Brain is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Brain regains half guard.
Brain on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Cross is nestled in close to Brain, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cross is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Brain tries to roll over but Cross keeps him under control.
Cross thows a huge punch but Brain dodges it nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brain makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brain.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cross accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Cross throws a big right hand that misses.
Cross would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Brain has momentary wrist control but Cross slips an elbow through the middle.
Brain avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Brain wants to stand but Cross is controlling the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brain is on top in guard.

Cross has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Brain can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Cross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Cross is working hard here to advance position.

Cross looking to hit a scissor sweep but Brain is one step ahead there.

Brain got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cross has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Brain has managed to get both his arms back between Cross's legs - danger averted.
Brain is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Brain shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cross's guard.

Cross working for a triangle but Brain defends it easily.
Brain trying to control the position from guard on top but Cross is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cross is pulling down on Brain's head to control his posture.
Cross keeping moving, preventing Brain from controlling successfully.
Cross utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Cross escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brain gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Cross dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Brain tries for a takedown but Cross sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Brain leaves Cross with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Brain closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cross to the mat! Cross manages to get full guard.
Cross trying to keep a closed guard but Brain is proving a slippery customer.

Brain stands and steps away. Cross gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Brain goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Cross is looking to clinch.
Brain avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cross tries to clinch but Brain is having none of it.

Cross shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Brain manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Cross is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brain looking for a sweep. Not yet Brain, not yet.
Cross landing some decent shots from guard.
Brain bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cross's guard.
Cross has momentary wrist control but Brain slips an elbow through the middle.

Cross wants to control but Brain passes easily into half guard.

Brain decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Brain wants to clinch.

Cross throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brain was covering up waiting for the punch and Cross finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Brain has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Cross off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cross looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Cross closes the distance but Brain moves to the side

and Brain counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Brain.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The strikes coming from Brain are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Cross is trying to get back to his feet.

Brain decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cross to his feet.
Cross stalks Brain and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Brain's face. Brain staggers backwards, shaken.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Cross lands with a left to the head.
A short right from Cross on the inside.
A bit of stalling here from Brain.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cross is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Cross jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Brain walks away with a smile on his face. Cross gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Brain throws a leg kick which misses Cross's front leg but catches the back leg as Cross tries to avoid it.

Cross gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Brain to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Brain not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brain won't allow Cross to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Big Brain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Brain instigates a clinch.
Cross has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Brain is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Brain misses with a knee strike.
Brain blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Cross tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Cross breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Brain rushes Cross and presses him up against the cage.
Cross misses with a body punch.
Cross tries to pull guard but Brain won't allow it.

Brain manages to break the clinch.

Brain forces Cross back against the cage and clinches.
Cross tries to pull guard but Brain won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Cross. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cross tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Brain just stands there and leans against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Brain blocking some punches.
Cross tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Brain's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

No luck for Brain with that takedown attempt.

Cross feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and Brain decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cross's guard.
Brain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Cross is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Brain is controlling him.
Brain cracks Cross with a solid left hand.
Brain trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Brain is looking to stand up but Cross won't let him.
Brain wants to control from the top but Cross keeps moving.
Brain throws a big right hand that misses.
Cross lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Brain!

Brain is desperately trying to improve his position but Cross has a good base and remains in mount.
Cross putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Cross unloads with some shots from mount but Brain bucks and avoids them well.
Brain manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Cross landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Brain makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brain.
Cross chips away with some ground and pound.

Cross decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Brain, up you get!

Cross gets to his feet. Brain looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Brain has closed the distance and engaged Cross in a clinch.

Brain decides to pull guard.
Brain wants to get back to his feet but Cross is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cross has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cross lands a couple of elbows.

And that's the end of the fight!
Big Brain comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Brain has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
