Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Derrick Montgomery! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tom Tucker! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tucker shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Montgomery is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tucker accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Tucker drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tucker jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Montgomery wants to get back to his feet but Tucker is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Tucker wants to control from the top but Montgomery keeps moving. Tucker sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Montgomery's guard. Tucker working the head and body with strikes. Montgomery is in trouble now - Tucker has advanced to mount! Montgomery trying desperately to get to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Montgomery is wriggling around trying to escape.
Montgomery is trying to stand up. Tucker is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Montgomery has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Montgomery flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tucker is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Montgomery is in real trouble.
Tucker sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Montgomery taps out!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Tom Tucker!
