PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hanzo Hasashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Donovan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Donovan has chosen Almost Easy-Avenged Sevenfold as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donovan swinging wildly here.
Hasashi shoots in but no luck this time.
Hasashi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Donovan pinned against the cage. Donovan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Donovan closes the distance and lands a one-two.

It looks like Hanzo Hasashi has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Donovan lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Hasashi sprawling to the canvas. Donovan follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Hasashi hang on?
Hasashi is trying to stand back up but Donovan is controlling him

Donovan slows the pace down in half guard.
Donovan is just content to waste time from the top position. Hasashi takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Donovan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Donovan!
Donovan bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hasashi's head.

Hanzo Hasashi's cut is getting worse.
James Donovan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Donovan drops Hasashi with a left and a right! Oh, Hasashi is hurt - Donovan dives into side control looking to finish!
Hasashi is breathing heavily.
Donovan in side control, throwing shots but Hasashi defends.
The ground and pound from Donovan seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Donovan fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Donovan tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Hasashi on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hasashi tries to get out of the position.
Donovan throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Hasashi is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Donovan asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Donovan wants to control but Hasashi is keeping him busy.
Donovan in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Donovan lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hasashi circles away quickly and effectively.
Hasashi shoots in looking for a takedown. Donovan tries to sprawl out of it but Hasashi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Donovan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hanzo Hasashi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hasashi slips a jab and a cross from Donovan.

Hanzo Hasashi's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Donovan connects with a single shot there.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Hasashi. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Donovan lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Donovan.
Hasashi could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Donovan tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Hasashi is able to avoid easily.
Hasashi fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Donovan lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Jeez, Hanzo Hasashi's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hasashi checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Donovan throws a sloppy head kick and Hasashi moves out of range easily.

A jab from Donovan finds it's way through Hasashi's defenses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hasashi is defended easily by Donovan.
Hasashi looks for the body kick but Donovan saw that one coming.

Donovan throws a right and a left that Hasashi avoids nicely.
Donovan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hasashi doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Donovan.
Donovan misses with a wild combination.
Hasashi shoots for a takedown but Donovan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hasashi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Donovan is fending him off so far but Hasashi persists. Nope, Donovan circles away and we're back to standing.
Donovan lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Hanzo Hasashi's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
