Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hank Venture! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chinks Carlton! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carlton fails to land with a series of punches.
Carlton tries to close the distance and clinch up but Venture swats him away and circles back towards the center. Venture shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Venture showed some decent athleticism there. Carlton kicks off Venture and gets to his feet. Excellent takedown into side control there by Venture. Venture is looking to take a break and control but Carlton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Venture tries to advance to mount but can't. Venture looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Venture prevents Carlton from escaping the position. Carlton is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlton defending against the ground and pound. Carlton is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Venture asserts his dominance and retains side control. Venture is trying to get an arm triangle but Carlton is defending well. Venture wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Carlton, who protects the arm well. Venture swings around for an armbar but Carlton sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Venture's guard. Venture seems keen to control Carlton's posture. Carlton wants to get up but he can't break Venture's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Venture escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carlton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Venture has a closed guard, preventing Carlton from standing up. Venture could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Venture controls Carlton momentarily but Carlton frees himself. Venture is working an open guard so Carlton takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Carlton moves in looking to clinch but Venture pushes him off. Carlton scores with a jab. Venture acknowledges it with a nod of the head. A jab from Carlton misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carlton misses with the combination.
Carlton looks gassed! Carlton stuffs the takedown. Chinks Carlton is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Venture shoots in but Carlton avoids the takedown attempt easily. Venture throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Carlton was covering up waiting for the punch and Venture finishes the takedown easily into guard. Venture is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Carlton working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Venture. Venture trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Venture is working hard here to advance position. Venture prevents Carlton from getting back to his feet. Venture wants to pass the guard but Carlton is keeping the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Carlton misses with a two punch combination.
Carlton tries to close the distance and clinch but Venture swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Carlton misses with a two punch combination.
Carlton misses the shot to the body. Venture throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Carlton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Venture to score an easy takedown into full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Venture shoots in and bounces Carlton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Venture prevents Carlton from getting back to his feet. Carlton keeping full guard, as Venture tries to pass. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carlton can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Venture controls the pace. Venture wants to pass the guard but Carlton is keeping the position. Venture working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlton wants to stand and escape but Venture is having none of it. Carlton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Venture. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Venture is keen to just control but Carlton is a slippery customer. Venture is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Carlton doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Venture. Venture trying to mount his opponent but Carlton defends it.

Carlton wants to clinch. Venture closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Venture lands in his opponent's guard. Venture drops back looking for a leg! Carlton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carlton manages to kick Venture off! Venture jumps back into Carlton's guard. Carlton wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Venture manages to pass to side control.

Venture looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Hank Venture dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Carlton moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Venture shoots in for a takedown but Carlton shows good takedown defense. Venture has a takedown stuffed. Carlton loads up on a big right hand but Venture slips the punch. Carlton misses with a two punch combination.

Carlton throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Carlton throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Venture shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Carlton sprawls well. Carlton wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Venture gets slowly back to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hank Venture. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carlton fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Venture shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carlton pinned against the cage. Carlton gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Carlton lunges at Venture with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Venture's hand.
It looks like Hank Venture has been cut. Carlton misses with a two punch combination.
Venture shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carlton defends it nicely. Venture dodges the punch combination from Carlton.
Chinks Carlton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Venture looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Carlton takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Carlton won't allow Venture to pass to mount. Carlton is looking to escape. Venture seems to be working for a kimura but Carlton defends the submission attempt. Venture not landing any meaningful shots this time. Venture takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Venture uses his free foot to push down on Carlton's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Carlton. Carlton is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Carlton is in a horrible position here. Venture smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Venture moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Carlton has worked his arm free - good work by Carlton!
Venture lands an elbow. Venture wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Carlton, who protects the arm well. Venture trying to control the position but Carlton is working away. Chinks Carlton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Carlton is trying to escape and get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Venture swings around for an armbar but Carlton sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Venture's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carlton tries to stand but Venture is controlling from the bottom. Carlton in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Venture working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carlton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carlton manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Carlton with a flurry of punches that miss. Venture is working an open guard so Carlton takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Carlton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Venture sees it coming and avoids it easily. Carlton throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Hank Venture. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Venture, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
