The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swanson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Magellan circles away.
Magellan lands a nice hook to Swanson's body. Swanson takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Magellan throws a head kick but Swanson moves out of range.
Swanson shoots for a double leg takedown but Magellan sprawls well. He's pushed Swanson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Magellan feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Swanson throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Magellan escapes and throws Swanson's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Swanson pushes Magellan away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Magellan gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Magellan is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Swanson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Magellan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Swanson, who protects the arm well.

and Magellan counters with a shoot takedown. Swanson fights it but they end up in guard.

Swanson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Magellan off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Magellan lands with a nice combination. Swanson backs away looking to recover.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Magellan, as that shot connected.
Swanson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Magellan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Swanson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
