PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Ortis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syaroga Taets (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Randy Ortis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Syaroga Taets!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Ivan Kurochkin and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortis throws a hook but Taets blocks it.
Ortis moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.


It looks like Randy Ortis has been cut.
Taets tries a head kick but it misses.

Ortis decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Taets is trying to stand back up but Ortis is controlling him
Ortis wants to get back to his feet.
Ortis is breathing heavily.
Ortis wants to take a breather but Taets is having none of it.
Taets trying to control from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ortis trying to control the pace.
Ortis has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Taets is looking to control Ortis's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Taets avoid being mounted?

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Taets lands a left and a right that sends Ortis crashing to the canvas! Taets dives into mount looking to finish!
Taets looking to control but Ortis is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Taets stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Taets throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


Randy Ortis's cut is getting worse.
Taets looks to land a body kick but Ortis moved away.
Taets checks the leg kick nicely there.
Taets throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ortis.


Randy Ortis's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Taets throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Taets throws a head kick but Ortis moves out of range.

Ortis clinches.

Ortis manages to break the clinch.
Taets throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Taets tries to land a leg kick but Ortis saw it coming and moves away.

Ortis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Taets manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Taets can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ortis controls the pace.
Ortis could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Syaroga Taets dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Randy Ortis's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Ortis blocks a head kick by Taets.
Ortis checks the leg kick.

Ortis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Ortis is looking for a kimura but Taets is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ortis to get the leverage.
Ortis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ground and pound from Ortis.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ortis sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Ortis is looking to advance position but Taets won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ortis is working hard here to advance position.
Taets is trying to stand up here but Ortis is controlling him well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Taets is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Ortis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Taets defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ortis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ortis frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Taets in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ortis controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Taets tries a head kick but it misses.
Taets throws a head kick that misses.
Taets throws a right and a left that both miss.
Taets looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.

Ortis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Ortis controls the position from side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Taets tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Ortis looking to control and managing it successfully.
A nice elbow there by Ortis.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ortis dominating with strikes here.
Ortis controlling the position easily from mount.
Ortis's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ortis raining down shots from the mount!
Ortis landing strikes from the mount and Taets is in trouble!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Randy Ortis showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Ortis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
