Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Uriy Sushkov! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andrey Novikov! The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Novikov scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Novikov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sushkov, who protects the arm well. Sushkov is not content to let Novikov control the position. Sushkov is trying to control Novikov's posture but Novikov avoids it. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Sushkov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Novikov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Novikov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Novikov cracks Sushkov with a big elbow. Novikov tries for a kimura but Sushkov is defending well. Novikov swings around for an armbar but Sushkov sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Novikov's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Novikov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sushkov is one step ahead there. Sushkov is looking to stand up but Novikov won't let him. Novikov looking for a sweep. Not yet Novikov, not yet. Novikov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sushkov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Novikov looks gassed! Sushkov wants to control from the top but Novikov keeps moving. Novikov wants to hit a switch here but Sushkov passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Novikov there!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Novikov regains half guard. Novikov is staying active underneath Sushkov, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Novikov is looking to improve his position.

Novikov quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Sushkov has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Novikov celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
