PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Butler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Plinio Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Butler comes to the cage accompanied by Fuck You. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Butler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Plinio Gomes!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Matheus Silva and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomes tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Butler paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gomes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Gomes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Butler, pushing him back against the cage.
Butler throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Gomess head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Butler creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Gomes has picked Butler up - he's going for a ride! Gomes dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Gomes is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Butler doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gomes.

Gomes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Butler defends it well.
Butler slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Gomes wanted to stand there but Butler had control of the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gomes preventing the sweep.
Gomes is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Butler bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gomes's guard.
Gomes wants to stand up but Butler is controlling him.
Butler is pushing down on Gomes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gomes is fighting to maintain full guard but Butler has managed to sneak the leg through.
Butler will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gomes misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gomes wants to get back to full guard.
Gomes wants to get back to his feet.
Butler takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Butler is just content to waste time from the top position. Gomes takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Butler wants to control from the top but Gomes keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Butler passes Gomes's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Butler wants to take a breather but Gomes is having none of it.
Butler performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Paul Butler just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Gomes takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Butler scores with the left hand. Gomes knows he should have avoided that one.
Butler really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gomes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Butler sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Butler lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gomes.
Paul Butler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Plinio Gomes.
Gomes looks gassed!
Gomes wants to clinch up but Butler keeps it at a distance.
Gomes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Butler's waist but Butler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gomes off to one side.
Gomes shoots in looking for a takedown. Butler tries to sprawl out of it but Gomes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Butler manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Plinio Gomes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gomes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Butler lands a nice shot that snaps Gomes's head back.
Butler tests Gomes's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Butler is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Gomes gets cracked there but stands up to it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Butler dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Butler closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Gomes! Butler dives in looking to finish! Gomes is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Butler!
