PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wesley Vergouwe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sandro Noessler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vergouwe's entrance music is Prison Song. A fine choice. Noessler has chosen Primordial - Empire Falls as his entrance music. Sandro Noessler is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wesley Vergouwe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sandro Noessler!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noessler fails with the takedown.

Vergouwe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Noessler napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vergouwe landing strikes.
Noessler sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Vergouwe is trying to control the action in half guard but Noessler is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Vergouwe tries to pass the half guard into mount. Noessler knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Vergouwe trying to control the action but Noessler is working from the bottom.
Noessler wants to get back to his feet.
Vergouwe stalling away here and it's allowed Noessler to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Vergouwe wants to stand but Noessler has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Vergouwe is in close to Noessler's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Noessler is trying to keep Vergouwe in close.
Vergouwe looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vergouwe wants to control from the top but Noessler keeps moving.
Noessler doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Vergouwe wants to get up but he can't break Noessler's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Vergouwe doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Noessler counters with a takedown into side control.
Noessler is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vergouwe's shoulder. That is not cool.

Vergouwe wants to control but Noessler postures up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Noessler scoring with punches from side control.
Vergouwe is pushing Noessler's head away, looking to escape. Noessler manages to hold on to the position though.
You can see the frustration on Vergouwe's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Noessler is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vergouwe's shoulder. That is not cool.

Noessler decides to stand back up. Noessler steps back and let's Vergouwe get back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Vergouwe tries to pull guard but Noessler holds him up against the cage and eventually Vergouwe drops back down to his feet.

Vergouwe decides to pull guard.
Noessler looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Noessler trying to control but Vergouwe is working from the bottom.
Noessler looks gassed!
Vergouwe not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Noessler tries to free his leg and advance position but Vergouwe is retaining full guard.
Vergouwe scores with a nice shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sandro Noessler will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Vergouwe tries to clinch up but Noessler circles away and keeps his distance.

and Noessler counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Vergouwe!
Noessler with a couple of short strikes.
Vergouwe tries to lock up and control but Noessler gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Noessler scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Vergouwe wants to control but Noessler is having none of it.
Vergouwe is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Vergouwe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Noessler controlling from the full mount.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Noessler cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Noessler has control of Vergouwe's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Vergouwe regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Noessler is breathing heavily.
Vergouwe wants to hold on but Noessler pushes him away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Vergouwe bucks up and throws Noessler to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Vergouwe clinches up against the cage.

Vergouwe decides to pull guard.
Sandro Noessler has got the better of the ground game so far.
Noessler prevents Vergouwe from getting back to his feet.
Vergouwe is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Vergouwe controls Noessler momentarily but Noessler frees himself.
Vergouwe wants to stand up but Noessler is controlling him.
Vergouwe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Noessler controlling from the top position.

Vergouwe working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Noessler doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Noessler manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Vergouwe looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Vergouwe tries to clinch but Noessler is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Vergouwe throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Vergouwe tries for a takedown but Noessler sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vergouwe connects with a right hand. Noessler shakes it off.
Wesley Vergouwe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Noessler tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vergouwe swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Noessler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Vergouwe misses with a head kick.

and Noessler decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Vergouwe's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wesley Vergouwe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Vergouwe tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Vergouwe controls Noessler momentarily but Noessler frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sandro Noessler showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Noessler drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Vergouwe is trying to control the position but Noessler postures up.

Noessler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Noessler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Noessler controls from within his opponent's guard.
Noessler wants to control from the top but Vergouwe keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Vergouwe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Noessler defends it easily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vergouwe with a poor takedown

so Noessler counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Vergouwe bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Noessler's guard.
Noessler wants to stand up but Vergouwe is controlling him.

Noessler has control of Vergouwe's left arm, preventing Vergouwe from doing any damage.
Noessler keeping moving, preventing Vergouwe from controlling successfully.
Vergouwe has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Noessler is proving hard to escape from.
Vergouwe cracks Noessler with a solid left hand.

Vergouwe gets to his feet - Noessler follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vergouwe tries for a takedown but Noessler circles away easily
and Noessler counters with a stiff right hand.
Vergouwe looks to score with a jab to the body but Noessler is just out of range.

Vergouwe feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Vergouwe stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Vergouwe throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Noessler doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Wesley Vergouwe has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sandro Noessler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Vergouwe throws out a loose jab but Noessler uses good head movement to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Sandro Noessler.
I've got Noessler winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
