PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thiago Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Zabijaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zabijaka has chosen Toony - Los (Feat. Pih & Fabuła) as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johny Zabijaka!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Santos looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Zabijaka fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Santos is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Zabijaka gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Zabijaka has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Santos uses from the top position.
Santos makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Zabijaka wants to sweep here but Santos controlling him for the moment.
Zabijaka controls Santos momentarily but Santos frees himself.

Santos has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Zabijaka is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Zabijaka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Zabijaka tries to break free but Santos pushes him back against the cage.
Zabijaka jumps guard but Santos stands there with Zabijaka around his waist. Zabijaka gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Zabijaka shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Zabijaka seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Santos wants to improve his position but Zabijaka is controlling well.

Santos has one foot on Zabijaka's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Zabijaka throws a head kick but Santos moves out of range.

Zabijaka throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Santos was covering up waiting for the punch and Zabijaka finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Zabijaka is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zabijaka thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Zabijaka won't allow Santos to get back to his feet.
Santos looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Santos is looking to stand up but Zabijaka isn't so interested in that idea.
Santos throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Zabijaka is controlling him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Santos keeping moving, preventing Zabijaka from controlling successfully.
Santos wants to get back to his feet but Zabijaka is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Zabijaka rushes Santos and presses him up against the cage.
Zabijaka is working for takedown but Santos is calmly controlling the position for now.
Thiago Santos has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johny Zabijaka.
Zabijaka has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Santos avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Zabijaka tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Santos just stands there and leans against the cage.
Santos wants to get back to striking at distance but Zabijaka won't allow it.

Santos's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Zabijaka avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Zabijaka prevents Santos from escaping the position.

Zabijaka stands up and beckons Santos to his feet.
Zabijaka comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Zabijaka misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Johny Zabijaka is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Santos connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Santos is on top in guard.

Santos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Zabijaka is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Santos, into his guard.

Santos has his feet on Zabijaka's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Santos looks to land a left hand but Zabijaka moved out of range nicely.
Zabijaka misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Johny Zabijaka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Zabijaka feints and as Santos raises his hands in defense, Zabijaka changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Zabijaka drops back looking for a leg! Santos is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Santos manages to kick Zabijaka off! Zabijaka jumps back into Santos's guard.
Santos wants to stand and escape but Zabijaka is having none of it.
Zabijaka takes a decent strike to the side of the head.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Santos throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Santos manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Santos throws a big shot that misses.
Zabijaka shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Santos sprawls well. Santos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zabijaka gets slowly back to his feet.

Zabijaka shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Santos is trying to defend but Zabijaka finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Zabijaka is taking a breather. Santos says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Santos tries to roll over but Zabijaka keeps him under control.

Johny Zabijaka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Zabijaka winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
