PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grant Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Doe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Grant Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, John Doe!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Sam Margolis and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell fails with the takedown.

Doe scores with a takedown into Mitchell's guard.
Doe lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Doe drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mitchell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Doe has Mitchell in his guard.
Mitchell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Doe is keeping the position for now.

Doe is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Doe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Doe is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Doe tightens his grip and picks Mitchell up, before dumping him to the ground. Mitchell manages to land in guard.

Doe drops back looking for a leg! Mitchell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mitchell manages to kick Doe off! Doe jumps back into Mitchell's guard.

Doe drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mitchell dives on top into guard.
Doe looks gassed!
Mitchell trying to control but Doe is working from the bottom.
Doe utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Mitchell wants to control from the top but Doe keeps moving.

Mitchell avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Doe keeping moving, preventing Mitchell from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Doe had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mitchell defends it easily.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mitchell has his takedown stuffed

and Doe counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Doe looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Doe is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mitchell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Doe working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Mitchell's head.
Doe thows a big elbow that misses.
Doe wants to control from the top but Mitchell keeps moving.

Doe stands up and waves to Mitchell to follow him.
Mitchell tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Doe counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Doe.
Mitchell tries to land a knee to the head but Doe blocks with his arms.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Doe counters with a takedown into side control.

Doe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mitchell managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Doe.

Doe working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
John Doe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Mitchell is not content to let Doe control the position.
Mitchell is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Doe postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Doe working away.
Doe is putting a hurting on Mitchell here, landing some big shots from side control.
Mitchell is working to avoid the ground and pound but Doe connects with a decent elbow.
Doe wants to control but Mitchell is keeping him busy.

Doe tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Doe has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Grant Mitchell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Doe shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mitchell manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Doe stands up and waves to Mitchell to follow him.

Doe has taken the fight to the clinch.
Doe blocks an elbow strike.
Doe stalling.

Doe has Mitchell pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Doe pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mitchell tumbling to the mat - Doe dives into Mitchell's guard.
Mitchell wants to stand up but Doe is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mitchell avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Mitchell wants to sweep but no luck.
Doe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Doe trying to control but Mitchell is working from the bottom.

Doe is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mitchell is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mitchell has escaped and now he's on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mitchell looking to sit in guard and control but Doe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Doe tries to free his leg and advance position but Mitchell is retaining full guard.
Doe chips away with some ground and pound.
Doe cracks Mitchell with a solid left hand.
Mitchell can't keep his opponent in guard - Doe advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Doe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Doe is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mitchell's half guard.
Doe not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Doe is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Doe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mitchell defends it well.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Doe is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mitchell doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Doe.

Doe is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mitchell defends it well.

Doe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Mitchell tries to keep at a distance but Doe has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Doe manages to pull guard.

Doe pushes a forearm under Mitchell's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Mitchell is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:28 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Doe!
