The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ostanbeczech changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. de West looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. de West is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ostanbeczech off and has taken his back! de West is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Ostanbeczech is defending well though. de West let's go of the attempt for now. Ostanbeczech turns into de West and is now in his guard.
de West tries to land a sweep but no joy. de West is working hard here to advance position. Ostanbeczech should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ostanbeczech accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. de West is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. de West keeping moving, preventing Ostanbeczech from controlling successfully. Ostanbeczech trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Ostanbeczech gets the takedown into side control. Ostanbeczech tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ostanbeczech has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! de West is looking for a sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ostanbeczech is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. de West looks calm but he's in trouble here. Ostanbeczech gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. de West is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Ostanbeczech lets go of the hold and de West can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Zangief Ostanbeczech!
