Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lenni Mietejarvi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Lenni Mietejarvi! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Tarja Halkonen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mietejarvi fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Hughes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mietejarvi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hughes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mietejarvi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hughes somewhat. Mietejarvi throws a series of punches but Hughes moves out of range. Hughes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mietejarvi, pushing him back against the cage. Hughes looking for a takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hughes prevents a takedown attempt there.
Mietejarvi being controlled against the cage. Hughes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Hughes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hughes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Mietejarvi sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hughes is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mietejarvi reverses the position - he's now on top in Hughes's guard. Mietejarvi stands and steps away. Hughes gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mietejarvi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hughes. Mietejarvi looks to clinch and Hughes counters by clinching up. Hughes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mietejarvi regains guard immediately. Hughes forces his way into half guard. Hughes is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mietejarvi defends it well. Mietejarvi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Mietejarvi. Mietejarvi is looking to stand up but Hughes isn't so interested in that idea.

Hughes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mietejarvi is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Hughes, into his guard. Hughes is breathing heavily. Mietejarvi won't allow Hughes to sweep him here. Hughes is working hard here to advance position. Mietejarvi trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mietejarvi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hughes is proving hard to escape from. That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mietejarvi gets to his feet - Hughes follows without any prompting. The fight stays on the outside here - Mietejarvi looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hughes shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mietejarvi napping and manages to drive through into side control! Hughes swings around for an armbar but Mietejarvi sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hughes's guard. Mietejarvi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Hughes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mietejarvi gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Mietejarvi preventing the sweep. Mietejarvi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hughes is proving hard to escape from. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hughes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mietejarvi as he avoids it easily. The fight stays on the outside here - Mietejarvi looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hughes. Hughes is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mietejarvi's half guard. Mietejarvi wants to control but Hughes is keeping busy and won't allow it. Hughes is working for a kimura but Mietejarvi is defending it quite comfortably.
Mietejarvi kicks Hughes off and gets back to his feet. Mark Hughes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hughes rushes Mietejarvi and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hughes is looking for a takedown up against the cage. That's two minutes gone in the round. Mietejarvi is pushing down on Hughes's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hughes is fighting to maintain full guard but Mietejarvi has managed to sneak the leg through. Hughes tries to roll over but Mietejarvi keeps him under control. Hughes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mietejarvi's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mietejarvi's back! Mietejarvi fending off the submission attempt from Hughes. Mietejarvi is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Mietejarvi wants to escape the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mietejarvi is trying to get back to his feet but Hughes has full control of the position and if anything, Mietejarvi has just worked his way into a worse spot. Hughes has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Mietejarvi has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hughes is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Mietejarvi knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Mietejarvi for a finish. Hughes is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Mietejarvi has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Hughes working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Mietejarvi defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Mietejarvi defends a prolonged rear naked choke attempt and turns nicely into his opponent's guard. Mietejarvi trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mietejarvi wants to get up but he can't break Hughes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Hughes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mietejarvi's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hughes drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mietejarvi gets the underhooks and prevents it.

And that's the end of the fight! Mark Hughes showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hughes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
