PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chap Stick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Remy Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stick comes to the cage accompanied by Bouba - Boulbi. The key to victory for Chap Stick has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chap Stick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Remy Martin!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stick closes the distance and clinches up with Martin, looking for a takedown. Stick pushes Martin against the cage but Martin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Stick fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Martin sprawls well initially but Stick persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Martin is controlling Stick's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Martin regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Stick.

Stick wants to get up but he can't break Martin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Martin throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Martin wants to sweep here but Stick controlling him for the moment.

Stick is breathing heavily.
Martin looking for a sweep. Not yet Martin, not yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Stick counters with a right hand to the body.

Martin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Martin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stick was covering up waiting for the punch and Martin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Martin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Martin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Martin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Martin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Martin is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Stick tries to hold on but Martin pushes him away.
Martin lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Stick is in a horrible position here. Martin smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Martin fails to take his opponent's back.
Stick tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Stick is trying to reverse the position but instead Martin has taken his back - oops!
I really don't envy Stick right now.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stick turns into Martin and is now in his guard.
Stick trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom.
Stick working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Martin's head.

Martin pushes Stick off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Martin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Martin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Martin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Martin not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Martin has his hands on Stick's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Remy Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Stick has his takedown stuffed

and Martin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Martin landing with the ground and pound.
Martin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Martin controlling from the top position.
Martin lands a couple of elbows.
Martin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Martin gets to his feet. Stick looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Stick leaves Martin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Stick looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Martin tries to roll over but Stick keeps him under control.
Stick throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Stick is working for a kimura but Martin is defending it quite comfortably.
Martin wants to control but Stick is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Stick is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Stick is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Martin tries to hold on but Stick postures up.

Stick looking to control but Martin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Stick prevents Martin from getting the reversal.
Martin is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stick lands a big shot there that rocks Martin but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Stick tries to control but Martin wriggling away.

Stick stands up from mount. Strange move.

Stick closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Martin did well to prevent Stick getting side control.

Chap Stick has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chap Stick.
Well Martin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
