PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alek Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Whyte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Alek Mitchell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Alek Mitchell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Will Whyte!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whyte cracks a nice hook into Mitchell's ribs.
Mitchell dives in and grabs Whyte's left leg, looking for a takedown. Whyte pushes down on Mitchell's head and hops out.
Mitchell throws the left hand but Whyte avoids the punch easily.

Mitchell shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Whyte's guard.
Whyte keeping moving, preventing Mitchell from controlling successfully.

Whyte kicks Mitchell off and gets to his feet.
Mitchell swings for the body but Whyte moves out of range.
Mitchell scores with a jab. Whyte acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Mitchell missing with a left hand there. Whyte was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Whyte tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Whyte tries a head kick but it misses.
Whyte misses with a two punch combination.
Whyte lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mitchell circles away quickly and effectively.
A bone on bone clash there as Mitchell blocks the leg kick.
Whyte uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Whyte but Whyte pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Mitchell throws a hook but Whyte avoids it easily.

Mitchell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Whyte manages to avoid it.
Whyte throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Whyte throws a series of punches but Mitchell avoids them all with ease.
A decent looking cross lands there for Whyte.
A punch combination from Whyte misses.
Whyte rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mitchell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Whyte tries to bum rush Mitchell with a series of wild strikes but Mitchell uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mitchell slips a straight right by Whyte.
Whyte will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Whyte misses with a two punch combination.

Mitchell misses with an uppercut. Whyte saw that one coming.
Whyte doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Mitchell scores with a jab to the body.

enabling Whyte to counter with a crisp jab.
Mitchell misses the shot to the body.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mitchell fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Mitchell shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Whyte but Whyte pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Mitchell drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Mitchell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Whyte doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mitchell.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Whyte lands a nice hook to Mitchell's body. Mitchell takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Mitchell throws a head kick but Whyte moves out of range.
Whyte throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Mitchell.
Mitchell shoots in but Whyte avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Whyte throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mitchell.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Will Whyte is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
No joy there for Whyte, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Mitchell seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Whyte for as long as he can get away with.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Whyte throws an overhand right that lands on Mitchell's shoulder, as Mitchell tries to avoid the shot.

Mitchell looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Mitchell seems to be working for a kimura but Whyte defends the submission attempt.
Whyte is trying to stand up here but Mitchell is controlling him well.
Mitchell is looking to take a break and control but Whyte is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mitchell wants to free his trapped foot but Whyte is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Alek Mitchell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mitchell looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Mitchell is looking to wear down Whyte with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Mitchell uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
A slow jab from Mitchell misses its intended target.
Mitchell shoots for a double leg takedown but Whyte sprawls well. He's pushed Mitchell's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alek Mitchell.
I think Mitchell has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
