Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 1, fighting out of London, Robbie Ruger! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Craig Broffy! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Sam Margolis and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruger will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. No joy there for Broffy, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ruger changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Broffy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Broffy is trying to buck Ruger off. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Broffy can do anything to dispel that myth. Ruger lands a few punches from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ruger just content to control the position. Broffy wants to get back to his feet but Ruger drags him back down. Ruger moves into full mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Broffy is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Ruger takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Ruger landing shots from mount. Broffy is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruger scoring with strikes but Broffy is staying in there. Ruger is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Broffy is surviving well by controlling Ruger's body position as best he can. Broffy is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Ruger wants to control the pace but Broffy is squirming around nicely. Ruger looking to ground and pound but Broffy is blocking nicely. Broffy is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Ruger content just to control the position here. Broffy is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Broffy looks gassed! Ruger with the ground and pound from mount. Ruger won't let Broffy get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Ruger is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Broffy to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Broffy shrugs it off. Broffy is trying to stand. Ruger tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Broffy is trying to stand up. Ruger wants to finish this one by submission but Broffy is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ruger. Broffy wants to try and get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruger lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Broffy's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Broffy is squirming around, avoiding Ruger's attempts to control the action. You get the feeling that Broffy really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Ruger sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Broffy tries to buck Ruger off but he can't manage it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ruger looking for a guillotine from mount but Broffy is having none of it. Ruger won't let Broffy get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A combination from Broffy does no damage. Ruger looks for a takedown but Broffy sprawls well. Ruger looks to land a combination. Broffy sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
It looks like Craig Broffy has been cut. Broffy throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ruger counters with a flying knee. Nice. Ruger slips a jab and a cross from Broffy.
Ruger feints and as Broffy raises his hands in defense, Ruger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Ruger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Broffy swivels though and keeps the full guard. Broffy preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Broffy pushes Ruger off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Broffy swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Ruger counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Robbie Ruger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Ruger moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ruger lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Broffy has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Broffy and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Broffy misses with the combination.

and Ruger holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Ruger avoiding damage.
Broffy is trying to break the clinch but Ruger has him pressed against the cage. Broffy wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Ruger has him pressed against the cage. Ruger connects with a nasty looking knee right to Broffy's face.

Ruger lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. A frustrated look appears on Broffy's face as he tries to break the clinch. Broffy blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Broffy tries to break the clinch but Ruger is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Stalling in the clinch from Ruger.

Ruger swings wildly with an uppercut but Broffy uses good head movement to avoid it. Ruger tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Broffy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Broffy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ruger. Ruger moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Broffy moves out of range as Ruger strikes. Ruger looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Broffy wriggles free and stands up. A punch combination from Broffy misses. Broffy throws a nice looking combination but Ruger bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruger shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Broffy is trying to defend but Ruger finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Robbie Ruger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ruger throwing shots but Broffy is blocking nicely. Broffy wants to get back to his feet.

so Ruger counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Ruger looking to pass the guard. Broffy wants to stand but Ruger is controlling the position. Ruger trying to control the position from guard on top but Broffy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ruger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ruger stops Broffy from standing up. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruger with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Broffy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Broffy misses with a combination
and Ruger counters with a three punch combo that has Broffy backing up. Broffy nods at Ruger to acknowledge the strikes. Ruger scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Ruger tries a head kick but it misses.

and Ruger counters with a nice double leg into side control. Broffy won't be happy with that. Broffy is trying to buck Ruger off. Craig Broffy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruger cracks Broffy with a big elbow. Broffy wants to get back to his feet. Ruger is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Broffy can do to turn this around?
