PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Heartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Heartman comes to the cage accompanied by Heartman Theme song. Green comes into a darkened arena with his song building. My Plague kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! John Heartman could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Rob Green's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Heartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Green!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heartman on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Heartman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Green is trying to defend but Heartman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Green trying to hold on to Heartman's head to control him but Heartman postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Green tries to get to full guard but Heartman has control of the leg.
Heartman seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Heartman is working for a kimura but Green is defending it quite comfortably.
Green trying to control here.

Heartman blocks the strikes from Green.
Green is trying to stand.
Heartman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Green knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Heartman prevents Green from standing back up.
Heartman not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Green moves into full guard.
Green working a defensive guard here.
Heartman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Heartman passes into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Heartman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Heartman is taking a breather. Green says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Green on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Heartman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Heartman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Green defends it well.
Green really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Heartman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Heartman blocks the strikes from Green.

Heartman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Green defends it well.
Green tries to get to full guard but Heartman has control of the leg.

Green has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Heartman is working away from the top position though.

Heartman is working for a submission of some sort.
Heartman is breathing heavily.
Heartman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Green does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Green is looking for a sweep. Heartman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Green looks like he's trying to stand up.

Heartman wants to work for an arm triangle but Green is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Green landing small, sideways elbows.
Green is trying to control but Heartman manages to pass to mount!

Green defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Heartman.
Green tries to hold on but Heartman postures up.
Heartman lands a nice shot to the head.
Heartman controlling the pace for now.
Green tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Heartman dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Heartman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Green's waist but Green gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Heartman off to one side.
Heartman slips a jab and a cross from Green.
Green throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Green throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Green lands with a kick to the temple. Heartman shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Green throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Heartman.
Heartman avoids the head kick by Green.
Heartman tests Green's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Heartman throws a quick inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Green tries to bum rush Heartman with a series of wild strikes but Heartman uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Heartman throws a low kick but Green avoids it.
A chopping leg kick lands by Green.
Heartman throws a chopping leg kick but Green manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Heartman tries to clinch but Green moves out of range.
Green throws an overhand right that lands on Heartman's shoulder, as Heartman tries to avoid the shot.
Heartman blocks a head kick by Green.
A head kick misses from Green.
Green is breathing heavily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Heartman looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Heartman closes the distance and clinches.
Heartman fails to pull guard.
Heartman fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Heartman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Heartman is looking to break free of the clinch but Green has double underhooks.

Heartman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Green uses from the top position.

Heartman is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Green working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Heartman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Green doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Heartman is tightening it up a little... Green has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Green reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Green taps out! nice BJJ there by Heartman!
