Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carlson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Monroe.
Carlson scores with a jab. Monroe acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Carlson clinches with his opponent.
Carlson just leaning against Monroe, taking a breather.
Carlson can't get the takedown.
Monroe tries to pull guard but Carlson holds him up against the cage and eventually Monroe drops back down to his feet.

Carlson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Monroe has him pressed against the cage.

and Carlson counters with a nice low kick that buckles Monroe's knee momentarily.

Carlson shoots in for a takedown but Monroe shows good takedown defense.

Carlson will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Monroe up against the cage.

Monroe lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Carlson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Carlson takes an elbow to the forehead.
Monroe has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Carlson regains guard immediately.
Monroe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carlson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carlson wants to get back to his feet but Monroe is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Monroe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Monroe is in close to Carlson's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Carlson looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Monroe thows a big elbow that misses.
Carlson controls Monroe momentarily but Monroe frees himself.

Carlson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monroe decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

and Carlson counters with a nice body kick.
Carlson is looking to clinch but Monroe is avoiding it.
Carlson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Monroe as he avoids it easily.
Carlson throws a one two combo.
No luck for Carlson with that takedown attempt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carlson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Monroe gets the underhooks and prevents it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Carlson rushes Monroe and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Monroe swings wildly with an uppercut but Carlson uses good head movement to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Shawn Carlson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Monroe is covering up but some of the strikes from Carlson are getting through and doing damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carlson has the hooks in. Monroe is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Carlson gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Monroe is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Carlson has got one arm under Monroe's chin. This could be trouble... Monroe trying to control the other hand but Carlson gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Monroe has tapped out! The fight is over!
