Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gunnar Nelson Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Trep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Peter Trep enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gunnar Nelson Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter Trep!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab lands there for Trep.
Trep is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Trep clinches up against the cage.

Trep manages to pull guard.
Trep wants to stand and escape but Nelson Jr is having none of it.
Trep is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Trep is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Nelson Jr is just riding it out for now. Trep eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Trep is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Nelson Jr is looking for a sweep. Trep is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Trep is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Nelson Jr sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nelson Jr gets full guard.

Trep postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nelson Jr is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Trep, into his guard.
Nelson Jr wants to control from the top but Trep keeps moving.

Trep working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nelson Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nelson Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Trep looks gassed!
Trep seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nelson Jr wants to control from the top but Trep keeps moving.
Nelson Jr is looking to work some ground and pound but Trep has wrist control.
Trep wants to sweep here but Nelson Jr controlling him for the moment.

Trep throws his legs up looking for a submission but Nelson Jr uses it to pass to side control.
Nelson Jr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Trep keeps working.
Nelson Jr controls the position.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Trep manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Nelson Jr passes into side control, despite Trep's attempt to control the position.
Nelson Jr scoring with punches and elbows.

Nelson Jr decides to stand back up.

Nelson Jr slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Trep looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Nelson Jr is looking for a kimura but Trep is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nelson Jr to get the leverage.

Trep is looking to get back to is feet but Nelson Jr passes into side control.

Nelson Jr stands up.
Trep lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Nelson Jr backs up against the cage.
Trep throws a sloppy head kick and Nelson Jr moves out of range easily.
Trep stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Nelson Jr.
Nice sprawl there from Trep as Nelson Jr shoots in.
Trep lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Nice takedown defense from Nelson Jr. No joy for Trep on that attempt.
Nelson Jr throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Trep.
Nelson Jr is looking to clinch but Trep is avoiding it.
Trep moves out of range as Nelson Jr throws a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunnar Nelson Jr dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Trep paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
A head kick from Trep lands but Nelson Jr takes it in his stride.
Nelson Jr shoots for a double leg takedown but Trep sprawls well. He's pushed Nelson Jr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Trep pushes Nelson Jr up against the cage in a clinch.

Trep breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Trep clinches up with Nelson Jr and pushes him back against the cage.

Trep manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Trep is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Nelson Jr is controlling him.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Nelson Jr gets underhooks to prevent Trep's takedown attempt.

Trep tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nelson Jr paws at him with a jab and circles away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nelson Jr feints and as Trep raises his hands in defense, Nelson Jr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Trep keeping moving, preventing Nelson Jr from controlling successfully.
Nelson Jr might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Nelson Jr trying to control the position from guard on top but Trep is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Trep is adopting a defensive guard.

Trep pushes Nelson Jr off and gets back to his feet.
Trep looks to land a combination. Nelson Jr sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Trep gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Trep wants to sweep here but Nelson Jr controlling him for the moment.

Trep controls Nelson Jr momentarily but Nelson Jr frees himself.

Peter Trep showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Trep looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Trep slaps away a takedown attempt from Nelson Jr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Trep wants to clinch.

Nelson Jr closes this distance looking for a takedown but Trep circles away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trep shoots in for a double leg but Nelson Jr sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Trep throws a right hand that Nelson Jr ducks under and follows up with a left that Nelson Jr also avoids with ease.

Trep pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Trep tries to clinch but Nelson Jr moves out of range.

Trep throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Nelson Jr's head.
Nelson Jr leaves Trep with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Trep closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nelson Jr circles away.

Nelson Jr drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Trep gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Trep avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Nelson Jr.
Nelson Jr just content to control the position.

Nelson Jr wants to control but Trep is keeping him busy.
Trep is trying to control Nelson Jr's posture but Nelson Jr avoids it.

Gunnar Nelson Jr overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nelson Jr fails with a takedown attempt.
Trep wants to clinch up but Nelson Jr keeps it at a distance.

Trep pushes Nelson Jr up against the cage in a clinch.
Trep missing with knees to the body.
Trep throws a knee to the head but misses.
Nelson Jr has a couple of punches blocked by Trep.
Nelson Jr gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Trep.
Nelson Jr drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Trep gets control of Nelson Jr's arms and successfully pulls guard. Trep will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gunnar Nelson Jr.
I think Nelson Jr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
