PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between JP Benn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Snow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benn kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Icarus by Hopesfall. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, JP Benn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bas Snow!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snow throws a push kick but Benn slaps the foot to one side.
Snow doesn't manage to clinch there - Benn circles away.
Snow changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Benn tries to avoid it but Snow manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Benn to the ground. Benn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The crowd cheers as Snow lands an impressive looking overhand right. Benn doesn't seem phased though.
Snow shoots in and drives through. Benn sprawls well.
Benn circles away from the clinch attempt.
Benn stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Benn wants it to stay on the feet.
JP Benn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bas Snow.
Snow tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Benn scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Benn is taking a breather. Snow says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Snow is staying active underneath Benn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Benn is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Snow is just riding it out for now. Benn eventually gives up the hold.

Benn seems to be looking for submissions.
Benn sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Snow defending well though.

Benn seems to be working for a kimura but Snow defends the submission attempt.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Snow tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Benn just stands there and leans against the cage.
Benn has Snow pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Snow manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Snow is working for takedown but Benn is calmly controlling the position for now.
Snow is trying to break free.
Benn tries for a takedown. No joy.
Benn is breathing heavily.
Benn misses with a hook to the ribs.
Snow using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Benn has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Benn tries to work over Snow's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Snow gets through Benn's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Snow takes a knee to the side of the body.
Snow is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Benn is keeping busy.
Snow tries for a takedown but Benn manages to get underhooks.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Benn changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Snow fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Snow shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Benn counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Benn postures up.

Snow is looking for a triangle but Benn pushes his legs off easily.
Snow pulls Benn in to control the position.
Snow is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Benn has gone for a leg lock! Snow slips out almost immediately though and dives into Benn's guard.

Snow thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Snow wants to control from the top but Benn keeps moving.
Benn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Snow loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Benn is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Snow fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Snow scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Benn looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Snow!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snow tries to hold on but Benn pushes him away.

Benn goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Snow turns into him and now he's in Benn's guard.

Benn tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Benn lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Snow!
Snow is in all sorts of trouble here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Snow is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Snow is wriggling around trying to escape.
Snow throwing hammer fists to the chest of Benn. What's that going to do exactly?
Benn throws a strike there. Snow manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Snow trying to control but Benn postures up.
Benn with the ground and pound but Snow uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Benn.

Benn is trying to get an arm triangle but Snow is defending well.
Snow manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Snow is staying active underneath Benn, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Snow is looking to control Benn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Snow avoid being mounted?
Benn is keen to just control but Snow is a slippery customer.
Snow looks like he's trying to stand up.
Snow manages to get to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Snow bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Benn's guard.
Snow wants to control from the top but Benn keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that JP Benn will probably get the nod.

Snow throws a combination that misses

and Benn decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Snow's guard.
Benn thows a big elbow that misses.
Snow trying to control the position.
Snow tries to strike from the bottom.
Benn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Benn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Snow is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Benn, into his guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Snow accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Snow pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Benn is keeping the position for now.
Snow thows a big elbow that misses.
Benn keeping moving, preventing Snow from controlling successfully.
Snow throws a big right hand that misses.
Snow wants to control from the top but Benn keeps moving.
Snow postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Benn keeping full guard, as Snow tries to pass.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Snow fails to land the takedown.
A head kick misses from Snow.
Bas Snow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Benn drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Snow can't do much from the bottom here.
Snow gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Benn wants to take a breather but Snow is having none of it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Snow wants to clinch

and Benn counters with a single leg into guard. Snow didn't expect that.

Snow wants to get back to his feet but Benn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Snow is trying to keep Benn in close.
Benn postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Snow keeping full guard, as Benn tries to pass.
Benn stops Snow from standing up.
Benn is looking to work some ground and pound but Snow has wrist control.
Bas Snow has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

And that's the end of the fight!
JP Benn showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Benn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
