PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jackson Pollack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate MacRally (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MacRally is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Sick Puppies - You're Going Down. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jackson Pollack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nate MacRally!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pollack shoots for a takedown but MacRally saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pollack shoots in for a takedown but MacRally shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck for Pollack with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jackson Pollack. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd cheers as MacRally lands an impressive looking overhand right. Pollack doesn't seem phased though.
Pollack shoots for a takedown but MacRally saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

MacRally leaves Pollack with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
MacRally throws a series of strikes that have Pollack backpedaling.
MacRally tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pollack swats him away and circles back towards the center.

MacRally closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - MacRally lands in his opponent's guard.
MacRally looking to sit in guard and control but Pollack gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pollack landing with the ground and pound.
Pollack tries to free his leg and advance position but MacRally is retaining full guard.
Pollack has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pollack is working hard here to advance position.
MacRally is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pollack trying to control the position from guard on top but MacRally is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Pollack drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and MacRally dives on top into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
MacRally trying to control but Pollack is working from the bottom.
MacRally is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
MacRally stopping the sweep attempt from Pollack.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MacRally stops Pollack from standing up.

Pollack looking for a sweep. Not yet Pollack, not yet.

Pollack looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Pollack wants to sweep but no luck.
Pollack is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Pollack is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst MacRally is controlling him.
Pollack is looking to stand back up but MacRally counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Pollack.
Pollack looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate MacRally dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



MacRally rushes Pollack and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
MacRally swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Pollack drops down looking for an ankle pick but MacRally pulls his leg out and moves away.

Pollack changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. MacRally looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
MacRally really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pollack. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pollack wants to take a breather but MacRally manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Pollack.
Pollack trying to control but MacRally is working from the bottom.
MacRally manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Pollack squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.

MacRally goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Pollack turns into him and now he's in MacRally's guard.
MacRally keeping moving, preventing Pollack from controlling successfully.

Pollack postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! MacRally is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pollack, into his guard.
Pollack is looking to stand up but MacRally isn't so interested in that idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Pollack is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Pollack is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst MacRally is controlling him.

Pollack is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Pollack is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
MacRally is trying to keep Pollack in close.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
MacRally keeping moving, preventing Pollack from controlling successfully.

Pollack is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! MacRally is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! MacRally has escaped and now he's on top!
Pollack has control of MacRally's left arm, preventing MacRally from doing any damage.
MacRally must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
MacRally stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pollack swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jackson Pollack will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and MacRally counters with a series of strikes. Pollack will be more careful next time no doubt.
MacRally lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Pollack backs up against the cage.
MacRally misses with a two punch combination.
MacRally cracks Pollack with an open hand slap.

MacRally prevents Pollack from improving his position.
Pollack has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. MacRally is working away from the top position though.
Pollack pushes MacRally off but MacRally dives into side control.

Pollack is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Pollack is looking to get back to full guard here but MacRally has managed to pass to side control instead.
Pollack is trying desperately to improve position.
Pollack regains half guard.
Pollack wants to get back to his feet.
Pollack regains full guard. Nicely done.

Pollack kicks MacRally off and gets to his feet.
Pollack tries for a takedown but MacRally circles away easily

and MacRally moves into the clinch.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if MacRally can do anything to dispel that myth.

Pollack wants to control from the top but MacRally keeps moving.

Pollack drops back looking for a leg! MacRally is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and MacRally manages to kick Pollack off! Pollack jumps back into MacRally's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and MacRally counters with a nice double leg into side control. Pollack won't be happy with that.
MacRally prevents Pollack from escaping the position.
Pollack trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Pollack is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Pollack gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nate MacRally comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well MacRally has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
