PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bruno RX (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruno RX!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Johnson!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson tries to clinch there but RX circles away.

RX feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
RX looking to sit in guard and control but Johnson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Johnson won't allow RX to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
RX wants to get back to his feet but Johnson passes into half guard.
RX wants to get back to his feet.
Johnson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Johnson wants to stand up but RX has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson stalling.
RX on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if RX tries to get out of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
RX pushes Johnson off looking to stand but Johnson dives back in and keeps control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but RX is defending well.
Johnson stalling away here and it's allowed RX to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruno RX dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


RX closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. RX pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Johnson tries to clinch but RX moves out of range.
Johnson tries to clinch but RX is having none of it.
RX keeps the fight on the outside.
Johnson doesn't manage to clinch there - RX circles away.

RX shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnson's guard.

RX stops Johnson from standing up.
RX is looking to advance position but Johnson has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
RX is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

RX really wants to buck Johnson off and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Johnson trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Johnson controlling the pace for now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Let's hope that Johnson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bruno RX will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



RX shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnson's guard.

Johnson wriggles free and stands up.
Johnson fails in his attempt to clinch.
RX closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. RX pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Johnson moves into the clinch successfully.
Johnson avoiding damage.
RX changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Johnson fights it off and pushes away nicely.
RX keeps the fight on the outside.
Horrible takedown by RX or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bruno RX. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson tries to clinch up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
RX circles away from the clinch attempt.
RX shoots in for a takedown but Johnson shows good takedown defense.
Johnson wants to clinch.

Johnson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Johnson scores with a knee to the head.


It looks like Bruno RX has been cut.
Johnson connects with a knee to the head.
RX is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

RX wants the takedown. Johnson is fighting it off but RX persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Johnson's guard against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
RX wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position.
RX loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
RX works over Johnson with some ground and pound from guard.
Johnson keeping moving, preventing RX from controlling successfully.

Johnson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Johnson wants to stand up but RX is controlling him.
RX trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Johnson wants to stand and escape but RX is having none of it.
RX trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom.
RX is working Johnson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
David Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Johnson wants to stand up but RX is controlling him.
RX trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
RX with a flurry of punches that miss.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Johnson clinches up with RX and pushes him back against the cage.
RX has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Johnson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Johnson unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Johnson gets underhooks to prevent RX's takedown attempt.
RX can't get the takedown.
RX tries to score a body lock takedown but Johnson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Johnson lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Johnson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

RX tries to score a body lock takedown but Johnson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Johnson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Bruno RX is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by David Johnson.
Johnson tries to clinch but RX moves out of range.
RX misses with a few strikes there.
Johnson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

And that's the end of the fight!
David Johnson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think RX has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
