PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mikko Vilkastus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michal Kurpinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mikko Vilkastus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michal Kurpinski!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vilkastus is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Kurpinski.


It looks like Mikko Vilkastus has been cut.
Vilkastus tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kurpinski was well out of range. Poor timing from Vilkastus.

Vilkastus has closed the distance and engaged Kurpinski in a clinch.
Vilkastus goes for a takedown in the clinch but Kurpinski prevents it.

Vilkastus is trying to trip Kurpinski. He has hold of a leg but Kurpinski is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Vilkastus persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Vilkastus won't allow Kurpinski to sweep him here.

Vilkastus is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Kurpinski is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Kurpinski has escaped and now he's on top!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Vilkastus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kurpinski defends well.

Vilkastus is looking for a triangle but Kurpinski pushes his legs off easily.

Vilkastus looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kurpinski passes into half guard.
Kurpinski prevents Vilkastus from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kurpinski is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Vilkastus is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kurpinski pulls his head out easily.
Kurpinski tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Vilkastus.

Vilkastus looking for submissions off his back.
Kurpinski tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Kurpinski postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Vilkastus to stand up.
Vilkastus doesn't manage to clinch there - Kurpinski circles away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Vilkastus keeps the fight on the outside.
Vilkastus lets loose with a powerful body kick. Kurpinski will feel that in the morning.
Kurpinski misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kurpinski takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kurpinski looks gassed!
Vilkastus works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Vilkastus wants to clinch

and Kurpinski holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Vilkastus looking for a takedown.
Kurpinski tries to break the clinch but Vilkastus is controlling the position.

Vilkastus breaks from the clinch.
Vilkastus rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kurpinski moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Vilkastus throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Vilkastus throws a nice head kick!

Vilkastus scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vilkastus postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Vilkastus has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Vilkastus working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Vilkastus with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Vilkastus goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Kurpinski is on top in guard.
Kurpinski is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kurpinski stands and throws Vilkastus's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vilkastus gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Vilkastus looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Kurpinski looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Vilkastus is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Kurpinski is tapping! Great win for Vilkastus!
