Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Malvin Maldi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maldi kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Loituma TECHNO!. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard clinches.
Maldi works on Howard's body with a couple of short punches.
Howard tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Maldi smiles and moves away.
Maldi misses with a jab, cross combination.

Howard swats away the attempt to clinch by Maldi.
Maldi throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Howard looks for a takedown but Maldi sprawls well.
Maldi throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Howard.

and Howard counters with a shoot takedown. Maldi fights it but they end up in guard.

Howard tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Maldi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Howard takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Maldi tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maldi has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Maldi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Howard counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

That was a close round but I would say that Malvin Maldi will probably get the nod.

Maldi bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
No joy there for Maldi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Maldi gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Maldi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Howard is one step ahead there.
Maldi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Howard wants to improve his position but Maldi is controlling well.
Maldi is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Howard still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Howard has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Howard decides to stand up, so the ref orders Maldi to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maldi is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Howard's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Howard's back!

Howard is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Howard is breathing heavily.
Maldi looking to break Howard's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Howard remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Maldi will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Maldi has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Howard is in real trouble here. Maldi gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Howard is tapping out! Maldi wins by rear naked choke!
