PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Gangsta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pablo Gangsta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eddie Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gangsta tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Alvarez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A combination from Alvarez does no damage.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt.

Gangsta closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Alvarez did well to prevent Gangsta getting side control.

Gangsta decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Gangsta moves in looking to clinch but Alvarez pushes him off.
Alvarez shoots and misses
and Gangsta counters with a solid body kick.
Alvarez misses with a takedown

and Gangsta counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gangsta.
Pablo Gangsta has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie Alvarez.

Gangsta tightens his grip and picks Alvarez up, before dumping him to the ground. Alvarez manages to land in guard.
Gangsta with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gangsta postures up in Alvarez's guard and throws a big left but Alvarez blocks it.
Alvarez is trying to control the position but Gangsta postures up.
Gangsta wants to pass the guard but Alvarez is keeping the position.
Gangsta lands a couple of digs.
Gangsta stops Alvarez from standing up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gangsta accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gangsta with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gangsta is looking to work some ground and pound but Alvarez has wrist control.
Alvarez is trying to keep Gangsta in close.
Gangsta trying to control the position from guard on top but Alvarez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Alvarez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gangsta doesn't manage to clinch there - Alvarez circles away.
Alvarez keeps the fight on the outside.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gangsta looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Gangsta wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.
Alvarez is trying to control the position but Gangsta postures up.
Gangsta postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Alvarez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Alvarez might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gangsta kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Alvarez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gangsta wanted to stand there but Alvarez had control of the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

so Gangsta counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Gangsta with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Gangsta misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Alvarez.
Gangsta presses Alvarez against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Alvarez tries to land knees in the clinch but Gangsta avoids the damage to the body.
Gangsta misses with a punch to the body.
A left hand lands to the body for Gangsta.
Gangsta lands a damaging elbow.
Gangsta tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Alvarez avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alvarez tries for a takedown but Gangsta manages to get underhooks.
Gangsta scores a nice knee to the body.
Gangsta cracks Alvarez with a nice body shot.
Alvarez is breathing heavily.
Gangsta with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Alvarez tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gangsta just stands there and leans against the cage.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Gangsta.

Alvarez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gangsta uses from the top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Gangsta tries to clinch there but Alvarez circles away.

Gangsta shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alvarez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gangsta looking to sit in guard and control but Alvarez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gangsta pulls Alvarez in to control the position.

Alvarez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Alvarez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gangsta wriggles free and stands up.

Gangsta doesn't manage to clinch there - Alvarez circles away.

Alvarez gets caught flat footed, as Gangsta shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Gangsta is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alvarez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gangsta is looking to work some ground and pound but Alvarez has wrist control.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Gangsta throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Alvarez was covering up waiting for the punch and Gangsta finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gangsta has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gangsta postures up in Alvarez's guard and throws a big left but Alvarez blocks it.
Gangsta throws a strike but Alvarez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Alvarez drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Alvarez as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Gangsta screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Alvarez! Nice submission victory there!
