PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Max Zero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chael Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zero comes to the cage accompanied by José the Bronx Rican - Spittin' Narcicism. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Max Zero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chael Lesnar!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lesnar shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zero but Zero pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Zero shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lesnar is trying to defend but Zero finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Lesnar blocking the ground and pound attempt from Zero.
Zero sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lesnar defending well though.

Zero is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Zero is trying to control. Lesnar wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Zero not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Zero throwing shots but Lesnar is blocking nicely.

Lesnar looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lesnar wants to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Lesnar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Lesnar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Zero has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Zero is looking to get to half guard.
Lesnar content just to control the position here.
Zero is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lesnar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Zero. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lesnar controlling the pace for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Zero is in all sorts of trouble here.
Lesnar takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Let's hope that Lesnar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Zero is mounted and he's throwing punches. Is that wise?
Lesnar trying to control but Zero is having none of it.
Zero swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

Lesnar sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Despite being in the dominant position, Chael Lesnar just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lesnar misses with a takedown attempt
and Zero cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Lesnar circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lesnar fails with the takedown
and Zero makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Max Zero has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chael Lesnar.
Lesnar looks gassed!
Lesnar keeps the fight on the outside.

Zero closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Zero.

Zero breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Zero shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Zero seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lesnar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Zero wants to work for an arm triangle but Lesnar is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Lesnar holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Zero scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Zero is working for a kimura but Lesnar is defending it quite comfortably.
Lesnar has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zero is working away from the top position though.
Lesnar is holding on to half guard well.
Zero throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Zero dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Zero fails with the takedown

and Lesnar counters with a nice double leg into side control. Zero won't be happy with that.
Zero is trying to control Lesnar's posture but Lesnar avoids it.
Zero is throwing a few token shots, despite Lesnar being in side control.
Zero is looking to reverse the position.
Lesnar controlling from side mount.
Lesnar trying to control the position but Zero is working away.
Lesnar working away.
Lesnar takes a little break here. Zero wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Zero shoots and misses

so Lesnar counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Lesnar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Zero wants to sweep here but Lesnar controlling him for the moment.
Lesnar is stalling in the full guard.

Zero has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lesnar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zero pushes Lesnar off and scrambles back to his feet.

Zero with a lazy takedown attempt

and Lesnar counters with a shoot takedown. Zero fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Zero. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zero wants to sweep but no luck.
Lesnar controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lesnar trying to control but Zero is working from the bottom.
Lesnar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lesnar might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Zero kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Zero had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lesnar defends it easily.
Zero can't keep his opponent in guard - Lesnar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Lesnar missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Lesnar is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zero is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lesnar is keen to just control but Zero is a slippery customer.

Zero is trying to stand.

Zero looking for submissions off his back.
Lesnar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Chael Lesnar has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Zero missing with punches from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chael Lesnar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Lesnar shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Zero napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Zero tries to improve position but can't.
Zero is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Lesnar asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Zero is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Zero's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Zero is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Lesnar slows the pace down in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lesnar is thwarting Zero's attempts to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lesnar is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Zero tries to roll over but Lesnar keeps him under control.

Zero is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lesnar pulls his head out easily.
Lesnar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Zero knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lesnar is looking to pass Zero's guard but actually Zero recovers to full guard.

Zero is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lesnar defends well.
Zero is trying to keep Lesnar in close.
Lesnar wants to pass the guard but Zero is keeping the position.
Lesnar controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zero wants to get back to his feet but Lesnar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Zero throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Lesnar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Zero has his takedown stuffed

and Lesnar counters with a takedown into side control.

Lesnar stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Zero tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Lesnar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Zero is pressing down on Lesnar's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Zero keeping full guard, as Lesnar tries to pass.
Zero throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Zero keeping moving, preventing Lesnar from controlling successfully.
Lesnar working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chael Lesnar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lesnar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
