Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz's entrance music is This Is War. A fine choice. Gracie has chosen 99 Problems as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Nick Diaz has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helio Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Andrew Berry and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie throws a body punch but Diaz moves out of range.
A punch combination from Diaz misses.
Diaz tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Gracie swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Diaz moves forwards but Gracie connects with a nice, crisp jab.
The fight stays on the outside here - Diaz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Diaz was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Diaz just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gracie can't escape the position.
Gracie is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Diaz.

Gracie manages to reverse the position and now he's in Diaz's guard. Nice work there by Gracie.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nick Diaz.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Gracie misses with a hook. Diaz ducked under it nicely.
Gracie throws a big shot that misses.
Diaz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Gracie.
Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gracie throws the left hand but Diaz avoids the punch easily.

Diaz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Diaz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gracie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Diaz manages to get himself to full guard.

Diaz is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracie defends well.
Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gracie misses with an uppercut. Diaz saw that one coming.

Diaz tries to land a leg kick but Gracie saw it coming and moves away.

Diaz wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side
and Gracie counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Diaz throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Gracie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Diaz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Gracie napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Diaz goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gracie rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Diaz's guard! Nice work there by Gracie!

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Diaz is on top in guard.

Diaz is keen to just control but Gracie is a slippery customer.
Diaz looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Diaz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Diaz is thwarting Gracie's attempts to control the position.
Diaz is pressing down on Gracie's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gracie is holding on for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gracie slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Diaz in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Diaz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.
Diaz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Gracie sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on Gracie's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A close third round but Helio Gracie just about did enough to take it.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Diaz decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nick Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Diaz bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Helio Gracie dominated that fourth round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Gracie lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Helio Gracie seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Diaz uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gracie has time to react.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Diaz tries to clinch but Gracie moves away
and Gracie counters with a straight right hand.
Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown. Gracie tries to sprawl out of it but Diaz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gracie manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Gracie swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Helio Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
