PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lars Vegar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Brashears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brashears has chosen Walk by Pantera as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lars Vegar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Brashears!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brashears gets a clinch.
Vegar looking for a takedown.
Brashears looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Vegar tries for a takedown but Brashears manages to get underhooks.
Vegar tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Brashears just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lars Vegar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vegar is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Brashears effectively controlling the action here.

Brashears escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Brashears tries to clinch but Vegar is having none of it.

Brashears stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Brashears wants it to stay on the feet.

Brashears tries to roll over but Vegar keeps him under control.

Vegar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Brashears is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Vegar is pressing down on Brashears's thigh, looking to free his foot. Brashears is holding on for now.
Brashears has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vegar is working away from the top position though.
Vegar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Brashears knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Brashears looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Vegar darts in and clinches Brashears up against the cage.
Vegar tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Brashears.
Vegar can't get the takedown.
Brashears crunches a lovely knee into Vegar's ribcage.
Vegar jumps guard but Brashears stands there with Vegar around his waist. Vegar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Brashears has Vegar pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Brashears pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Vegar tumbling to the mat - Brashears dives into Vegar's guard.
Vegar is breathing heavily.

Brashears stands up and waves to Vegar to follow him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Brashears throws a head kick that Vegar semi-blocks.

Vegar wants to break the clinch but can't.
Vegar can't get the takedown.
Brashears unloads a knee to the mid-section.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Brashears.

Vegar is working for takedown but Brashears is calmly controlling the position for now.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Brashears gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Vegar regains guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brashears sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Vegar's guard.
Brashears looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Vegar tries to kick Brashears off in order to stand up. Brashears Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Brashears in side control lands a decent elbow.
Vegar can't do much from the bottom here.
Vegar takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Vegar is not content to let Brashears control the position.
Vegar is trying to improve his position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vegar takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Brashears stands up and beckons Vegar to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brandon Brashears showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Vegar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brashears connects with a nice short shot to Vegar's temple.
Brashears thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Vegar's head.

Brashears wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vegar keeps working.
Vegar trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Brashears manages to pass to mount!
Brashears pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Brandon Brashears is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Brashears wants to control the pace but Vegar is squirming around nicely.

Brashears is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Vegar to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Vegar shrugs it off.

Brandon Brashears comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Brashears has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
