Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Young! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juan Miranda! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miranda rushes Young and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Young looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Both fighters working to control the clinch. Miranda pulls guard. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Miranda is on top in guard.
Miranda postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Young is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Miranda, into his guard. Miranda is working an open guard so Young takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Miranda lands a high kick to the side of Young's head that stuns him and send him tumbling down to the canvas! Miranda dives into guard, looking to finish.
It looks like James Young has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Miranda is pushing down on Young's leg trying to pass to half guard. Young is fighting to maintain full guard but Miranda has managed to sneak the leg through. Miranda frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Miranda unloads with some shots from mount but Young bucks and avoids them well.
Miranda tries to control but Young wriggling away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miranda working for a submission but Young is keeping him at bay. The referee warns Young that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Miranda swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Juan Miranda!
