Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brandon Vera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shane Carwin!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carwin bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Vera's head backwards.
It looks like Brandon Vera has been cut.
Vera scores with a kick to the body.
Vera shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Carwin but Carwin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Carwin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Carwin blocks a head kick by Vera.
Carwin stuffs the takedown attempt from Vera. Vera gets slowly back to his feet.
Vera throws a series of punches but Carwin moves out of range.
Carwin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Vera shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brandon Vera. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vera looks for a takedown but Carwin sprawls well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vera looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Carwin is fending him off so far but Vera persists. Nope, Carwin circles away and we're back to standing.
Carwin stuns Vera with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Vera is breathing heavily.
Carwin dips to his left and cracks Vera with an uppercut!
Good shot there by Carwin.
Carwin throws a series of punches but Vera moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round.
No joy there for Carwin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Carwin lands with an uppercut that bounces Vera off the cage and back into rage.
Carwin scores with a hook.
Brandon Vera's cut is getting worse.
Carwin lands a nice shot that snaps Vera's head back.
The fighters circle momentarily. Carwin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Carwin drops Vera with a beautiful combination! Vera stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Carwin is looking for the KO!
Vera is rocked!
Brandon Vera's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Vera is holding his hands too far apart here. Carwin throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Vera is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Shane Carwin!
