PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tanner Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ultimate Warrior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ultimate Warrior struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Ultimate Warrior will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tanner Jackson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ultimate Warrior!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jackson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Warrior shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Jackson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jackson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Warrior wants to sweep here but Jackson controlling him for the moment.

Jackson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jackson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Warrior pulls Jackson in close to prevent any damage.
Jackson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Warrior wants to sweep but no luck.
Jackson trying to control the position from guard on top but Warrior is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Warrior is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jackson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Warrior is keeping the position for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Warrior shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jackson tries to get to full guard but Warrior has control of the leg.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Jackson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Warrior looks gassed!
Warrior throws a left and a right that both miss

and Jackson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Warrior won't be happy with that.
Warrior is looking to reverse the position.

Jackson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Warrior has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like Ultimate Warrior has been cut.

Jackson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jackson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Warrior keeps working.

Jackson tries for a kimura but Warrior is defending well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jackson scores with a couple of short elbows.

The has opened up Ultimate Warrior's cut even more.
Jackson landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Warrior is trying to control Jackson's posture but Jackson avoids it.
Jackson cracks Warrior with a big elbow.


The cut above Ultimate Warrior's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
You can see the frustration on Warrior's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Warrior controls the position for a moment.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.
Warrior sneaks back into half guard.
Warrior wants to control but Jackson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson prevents Warrior from improving his position.

Jackson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Warrior is just riding it out for now. Jackson eventually gives up the hold.
Jackson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Jackson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Warrior doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jackson.
Jackson wants to pass the guard but Warrior is defending well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ultimate Warrior's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
