PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Teemu Korpi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Big Oh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Korpi comes to the cage accompanied by Children Of Bodom - Living Dead Beat. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Teemu Korpi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Big Oh!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Korpi misses with a takedown attempt - Oh sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Oh throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Korpi.
Oh ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Korpi moves away.
Korpi slips a jab and a cross from Oh.

It looks like Big Oh has been cut.
Oh scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Oh throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Korpi counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Oh is lucky that one didn't land flush.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Oh stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Oh wants it to stay on the feet.

Korpi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Oh as he jumps to the side.

Korpi tries to bum rush Oh with a series of wild strikes but Oh uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Oh throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Oh throws a left and a right that both miss

and Korpi counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Oh is looking to escape.
Oh is refusing to be controlled, as Korpi sits in half guard.
Korpi is really struggling to control Oh but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Oh has one foot on Korpi's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Korpi closes the distance and clinches.
Oh takes a knee right on the jaw!

Korpi jumps guard and drags Oh to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Korpi is working an open guard so Oh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Oh gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Korpi to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Korpi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oh on the ground.

Korpi shoots in for a double leg but Oh sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Oh throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Korpi.

Oh steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Korpi. That one must have hurt.

Oh is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Korpi is looking to take a break and control but Oh is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Oh wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Korpi moves into range and clinches up with Oh.
Korpi tries to pull guard but Oh holds him up against the cage and eventually Korpi drops back down to his feet.
Korpi prevents Oh from breaking the clinch.
Oh is trying to force a seperation but Korpi has the dominant position.
Korpi keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Oh's efforts to push away.
Oh tries to circle away but Korpi has him pinned against the cage.
Korpi tries to pull guard but Oh won't allow it.

Korpi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Oh throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Korpi counters with a head kick.
Korpi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Oh sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Korpi wants to clinch up but Oh keeps it at a distance.

and Korpi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Oh wants to stand but Korpi is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oh is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Korpi is controlling him.

Korpi is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Korpi has Oh pressed against the cage, preventing Oh from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Oh lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Korpi backs up against the cage.
Oh throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Oh fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Korpi manages to avoid it.
Oh leaves Korpi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Oh throws a series of punches but Korpi avoids them all with ease.
Oh throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Korpi stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Oh is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Korpi rather than just go for the knockout.
Korpi looks to land a combination. Oh sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Oh in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Korpi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Oh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Well Korpi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
