Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roy Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Bobberson! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brown misses with a low kick as Bobberson jumps back. A nice leg kick lands there from Brown. Bobberson takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bobberson looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Bobberson takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Billy Bobberson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bobberson lands with a shot to the body. Bobberson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Brown is fending him off so far but Bobberson persists. Nope, Brown circles away and we're back to standing. Bobberson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brown misses with an attempted mid kick.
Bobberson throws a leg kick that is checked and Brown counters with a body kick that stops Bobberson in his tracks momentarily. Bobberson looks gassed! Bobberson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brown sees it coming and avoids it easily. Brown blocks a jab. Brown keeps Bobberson at a distance using the push kick. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Brown slips under a jab. Brown misses with a leg kick. Brown explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Brown fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bobberson sprawls well initially but Brown persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice strikes from Brown there. Brown throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Brown missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Brown working Bobberson over with strikes. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Brown lands a nice short elbow. Brown seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Bobberson tries to roll over but Brown keeps him under control. Brown looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bobberson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bobberson is trying to maintain the position but Brown is very close to passing his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bobberson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brown. Bobberson won't allow Brown to pass to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bobberson wants to get back to his feet. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brown connects with a nice short shot to Bobberson's temple. Brown wants to pass the guard but Bobberson is defending well. Brown has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Bobberson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Bobberson is bucking up trying to escape but Brown cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Brown dominating with strikes here. Brown lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Bobberson hang on?

That's three minutes gone in the round. Brown goes for an armbar but Bobberson turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bobberson. Brown looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bobberson is one step ahead there. Bobberson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Brown dives on top into guard. Brown wants to pass the guard but Bobberson is keeping the position. Brown trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Bobberson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Brown defends it easily. Bobberson preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brown missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brown accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Brown trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Bobberson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Brown tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Bobberson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Brown manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bobberson's best efforts. Brown regains full guard. Nicely done. Bobberson postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Brown is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bobberson, into his guard. Brown passes Bobberson's right leg, so he's now in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roy Brown dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Brown. A low kick from Bobberson is predictable there and Brown counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bobberson! Bobberson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Brown working for a submission but Bobberson is keeping him at bay. Brown looking to secure an arm triangle but Bobberson defends it well. Bobberson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bobberson is in trouble now - Brown has advanced to mount! Brown lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brown thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Bobberson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Bobberson regains half guard. Bobberson tries to roll over but Brown keeps him under control. Bobberson is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Brown jumps into side control! Brown tries to advance to mount but can't. Brown tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bobberson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Bobberson wants to get back to full guard. Brown is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Bobberson is trying to control but can't.

BOOM! Brown connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Brown has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bobberson's face.
Bobberson is still in real trouble! Can Brown finish him? Brown raining down shots from the mount! Bobberson wants to control but Brown is having none of it. Roy Brown overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Brown prevents Bobberson from getting the reversal. Bobberson seems to have recovered his senses. Bobberson tries to lock up and control but Brown gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Brown lands a nice shot to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Brown scoring with strikes but Bobberson is staying in there. Bobberson is bucking up trying to escape but Brown cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Brown lands a heavy elbow. Brown landing shots from mount. Brown drops a big elbow. That's hurt Bobberson! More shots from Brown and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
