PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marshall Mathers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frankie Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mathers kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is rocky its a fight. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frankie Ray!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ray lands a glancing blow to the side of Mathers's head.

Mathers lands a big head kick that sends Ray tumbling to the mat! Mathers takes a step backwards and waves Ray back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Frankie Ray has been cut.
Ray blocks a head kick by Mathers.
A right-left combo lands from Ray.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A slapping leg kick lands for Mathers.
Ray misses with a two punch combination.
Ray throws a hook but Mathers avoids it easily.
Ray throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Mathers sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Mathers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mathers throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ray counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Mathers will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Ray counters with a left to the body.
Mathers needs to keep his hands up - Ray had a free shot at his head there.
Ray cracks Mathers with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Mathers uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ray.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ray closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Mathers to the mat! Mathers manages to get full guard.

Ray throws a strike but Mathers rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mathers is fighting to break Ray's control of his arms but Ray is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Mathers pivots, looking for a leg kick but Ray is out of range and Mathers settles back down.
Mathers fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Ray is out of range.
Mathers keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Ray counters with a left to the body.
Ray misses with a hook. Mathers ducked under it nicely.
Frankie Ray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ray throws a series of punches but Mathers moves out of range.

The fighters circling - Ray throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Ray throws out a loose jab but Mathers uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mathers throws a leg kick which misses Ray's front leg but catches the back leg as Ray tries to avoid it.

and Ray counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Ray fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mathers looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mathers gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ray to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ray thows a big elbow that misses.

Mathers is wriggling around but Ray manages to pass to half guard.
Mathers is not content to let Ray control the position.
Ray thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mathers's head.
Mathers is trying to stand up here but Ray is controlling him well.
Mathers is staying active underneath Ray, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mathers takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Marshall Mathers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ray misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mathers.
Marshall Mathers is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ray fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mathers avoids it really well and circles away.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marshall Mathers.
Well Ray has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
