PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Marley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Earl Floyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Floyd is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Welcome To The Jungle. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bob Marley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Earl Floyd!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marley tries to close the distance and clinch up but Floyd swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Floyd keeps the fight on the outside.

Marley fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Floyd sprawls well initially but Marley persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Floyd is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Marley is trying to control the action in half guard but Floyd is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Marley wants to free his trapped foot but Floyd is holding on for dear life with his legs.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Floyd can do anything to dispel that myth.

Marley is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Marley stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Floyd to get to his feet.

Marley feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Marley looking to sit in guard and control but Floyd gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Floyd wants to stand and escape but instead Marley has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Marley wants to pass the guard but Floyd is keeping the position.
Marley controls from within his opponent's guard.
Floyd looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Marley tries to free his leg and advance position but Floyd is retaining full guard.

Marley forces his way into half guard.
Floyd looks gassed!
Floyd is trying to maintain the position but Marley is very close to passing his half guard.

Marley is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Floyd is looking to control Marley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Floyd avoid being mounted?
Marley prevents Floyd from improving his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Marley lands a nice short elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Marley looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Marley is controlling the pace.
Marley wants to pass the guard but Floyd is defending well.
Floyd is trying to stand back up but Marley is controlling him
Floyd avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Marley.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Floyd shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Floyd was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Marley is looking to improve his position but Floyd isn't that keen on the idea.
Marley is working hard here to advance position.
Marley manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.
Floyd with the ground and pound but Marley uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Floyd trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Marley manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Floyd is breathing heavily.

Marley's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Marley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Floyd works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Marley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Floyd swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marley slips nicely into half guard.
Floyd is refusing to be controlled, as Marley sits in half guard.

Marley is trying to work for a kimura but Floyd is defending well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Marley wants to stand but Floyd has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Marley works his way into side control.
Marley working away.

Marley decides to stand back up.

Floyd gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Marley to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Marley loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Marley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Marley pushing down on Floyd's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Marley is keen to just control but Floyd is a slippery customer.
Floyd trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Marley can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Floyd is looking to escape.

Marley has control of Floyd's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Floyd regains control of the situation pretty easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Floyd tries to hold on but Marley postures up.

Marley is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Floyd to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Floyd shrugs it off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Floyd can't escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Marley dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Floyd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Floyd shoots and misses
and Marley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Floyd circles away from the clinch attempt.

Marley moves into the clinch successfully.
Floyd has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Marley avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Floyd can't break the clinch.
Marley stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Marley breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Floyd walks into a jab.
Floyd takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Marley fails in his attempt to clinch.

Marley drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Marley looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Marley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Floyd keeps working.
Marley misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Marley wants to control but Floyd is keeping him busy.
Floyd really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Marley advances nicely into full mount.
Marley trying to control but Floyd is having none of it.
Marley lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Marley takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Marley is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Floyd is surviving well by controlling Marley's body position as best he can.

Marley looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Floyd wants to control but Marley is having none of it.

Marley is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Marley lands with a nice body punch.
Bob Marley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Floyd walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Floyd misses with a takedown attempt
and Marley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Bob Marley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Earl Floyd.
Marley fails in his attempt to clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Marley lands the left hand.
Earl Floyd has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Marley closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Marley showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Marley has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
