PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jose De Romi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis Outlaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jose De Romi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Travis Outlaw!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Romi throws a right and a left that Outlaw avoids nicely.
Outlaw defends well against a solid takedown attempt from De Romi.
A punch combination from Outlaw misses.
Outlaw lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but De Romi circles away quickly and effectively.
De Romi throws a jab when Outlaw was well out of range.

Outlaw shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Outlaw showed some decent athleticism there.

Outlaw looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Outlaw trying to control the action but De Romi is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

De Romi is trying to get back to full guard.

Outlaw wants to work for an arm triangle but De Romi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Outlaw escapes and gets back to his feet.

Outlaw looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for De Romi!
De Romi is squirming around, avoiding Outlaw's attempts to control the action.
De Romi sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Outlaw is taking a breather. De Romi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
De Romi tries to kick Outlaw off but Outlaw keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Outlaw wants to control but De Romi is keeping him busy.

Outlaw is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. De Romi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Outlaw.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
De Romi tries to kick Outlaw off but Outlaw keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
De Romi is staying active underneath Outlaw, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
De Romi tries to clinch up.
De Romi delivers a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Travis Outlaw dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


De Romi lands with a straight right. Outlaw didn't see that one coming.

De Romi pushes Outlaw off looking to stand but Outlaw dives back in and keeps control.
Outlaw is taking a breather. De Romi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
De Romi avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Outlaw.

Outlaw seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but De Romi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
De Romi is looking for a sweep. Outlaw is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
De Romi throws a head kick that misses

and Outlaw counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in De Romi's guard now.

Outlaw wants to lay and pray for a moment but De Romi keeps working.

De Romi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Well, if Outlaw is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Outlaw throwing shots but De Romi is blocking nicely.
Outlaw landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Outlaw passes into side control, despite De Romi's attempt to control the position.
Outlaw wants to control but De Romi is keeping him busy.
Outlaw tries to move into full mount but can't pass De Romi's legs.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Outlaw working away.

Outlaw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Outlaw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
De Romi is not content to let Outlaw control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Travis Outlaw showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Outlaw counters with a head kick.
De Romi misses with a few strikes there.

and Outlaw counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for De Romi!
Outlaw scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Outlaw tries to control but De Romi wriggling away.

Outlaw stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Horrible takedown by Outlaw or perhaps it was just good defense by De Romi which made him look bad.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Outlaw shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

De Romi sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Outlaw wants to take a breather but De Romi is having none of it.
Outlaw wants to pass to mount but De Romi is defending the position.
Travis Outlaw has got the better of the ground game so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
De Romi is staying active underneath Outlaw, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Outlaw is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
De Romi has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Outlaw is working away from the top position though.
De Romi makes his way to full guard. A much better position for De Romi.
De Romi has control of Outlaw's left arm, preventing Outlaw from doing any damage.

De Romi has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Outlaw has passed into side control.

Outlaw tries for a kimura but De Romi is defending well.
Jose De Romi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
De Romi wants to control but Outlaw postures up.
De Romi tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Outlaw wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Outlaw takes a little break here. De Romi wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Outlaw prevents De Romi from escaping the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Travis Outlaw comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Outlaw winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
