Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel Velazquez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Nate Diaz! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diaz drives through with a takedown into guard. Velazquez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Diaz. Velazquez is trying to keep Diaz in close.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Velazquez keeps moving. Diaz throws a strike but Velazquez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Diaz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Diaz wants to sweep but no luck. Diaz looking for a guillotine here but Velazquez defends easily.
Velazquez trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Diaz can't keep his opponent in guard - Velazquez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Velazquez seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz tries to get to full guard but Velazquez has control of the leg. Diaz is not content to let Velazquez control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Diaz trying to control but Velazquez postures up.
Diaz is refusing to be controlled, as Velazquez sits in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Diaz actively working from the bottom here. Diaz looks gassed! Diaz is looking for a sweep. Velazquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Velazquez seems to be looking for submissions.
Velazquez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Velazquez is working for a submission of some sort.
Velazquez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Velazquez is keen to just control but Diaz is a slippery customer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz looking for submissions off his back. Diaz looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Velazquez is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Diaz is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
