Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Markito Riku! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Aleksandr Progbeniak! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Seu Braga and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Riku looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Progbeniak is fending him off so far but Riku persists. Nope, Progbeniak circles away and we're back to standing. Progbeniak scores with a takedown into Riku's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Progbeniak passes easily into side control. Nice work. Riku is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Progbeniak has just dragged him back down to the mat. Riku trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Progbeniak working the ground and pound but Riku is defending the strikes. Riku is trying to get back to his feet. Progbeniak is looking to take a break and control but Riku is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Riku scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Progbeniak manages to work his way to half guard, despite Riku's best efforts. Progbeniak gets back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Progbeniak is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Progbeniak tries to land a sweep but no joy. Riku throws and elbow that misses. Progbeniak uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Riku's guard. Nice move by Progbeniak! Riku wants to stand but Progbeniak is controlling the position. Progbeniak trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Riku is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Riku is breathing heavily.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Riku misses with a takedown attempt and Progbeniak counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Riku pushes Progbeniak off but Progbeniak dives into side control.
Progbeniak advances to mount. Riku wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Progbeniak working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Riku turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Progbeniak off and cradles Riku's limp body as Progbeniak celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Aleksandr Progbeniak!
