Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Qura! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hector Mendez! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Mendez working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Qura has picked Mendez up - he's going for a ride! Qura dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Qura is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mendez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Qura. Qura wants to work for an arm triangle but Mendez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Qura prevents Mendez from improving his position. Qura is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mendez is just riding it out for now. Qura eventually gives up the hold. Mendez is trying to get back to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mendez trying to control from the bottom.

Mendez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Qura wants to work for an arm triangle but Mendez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Mendez gets full guard. Mendez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Mendez pulls Qura in close to his closed guard and prevents Qura from doing any damage or advancing position. Qura pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mendez is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Qura thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Mendez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Qura. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Qura is trying for a kimura here. Mendez looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Qura wins by kimura!
