PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Conrad Rain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Victor Horta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Horta has chosen Indestructible as his entrance music. Horta has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conrad Rain!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Victor Horta!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Rain misses the target.
Horta looks gassed!
Horta lands a head shot.
Horta rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rain moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A jab from Rain finds it's way through Horta's defenses.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rain lands an elbow that stopped Horta in his tracks for a moment.
Rain really is a fat lump.
Rain taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Rain for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

Rain breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rain throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Horta holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Knees in the clinch landing for Rain.

Rain escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horta takes one to the chin there.
Rain throws a left and a right that both miss

and Horta counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Horta thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rain's head.

Rain looks like he's trying to stand up.
Horta throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Rain is trying to stand back up but Horta is controlling him
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Rain rushes Horta and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Rain pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rain misses with a two punch combination.
Rain lands a body shot.
Rain throws a nice outside leg kick.
Rain closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Rain changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Rain throws a series of punches but Horta moves out of range.
Nice uppercut lands for Rain. That snapped Horta's head back.

Rain closes the distance and clinches.
Rain holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Rain's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rain ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Horta moves away.
Horta on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Rain. Rain obviously looking to wear him down.
Rain tries to clinch up but Horta circles away and keeps his distance.
Horta swats away the attempt to clinch by Rain.

Rain pushes Horta up against the cage in a clinch.
A short right from Rain on the inside.

Rain breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Rain throws a right hand that Horta ducks under and follows up with a left that Horta also avoids with ease.
Rain tries to close the distance and clinch up but Horta swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Horta on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Horta shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Horta showed some decent athleticism there.
Horta throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Horta decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Rain throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Horta sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Horta rushes Rain and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Rain landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Rain is trying to break the clinch but Horta is controlling him.
Rain leaning his opponent against the cage.

Horta pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Conrad Rain is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rain is looking to clinch but Horta is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rain tries to clinch but Horta is having none of it.
Both fighters circling a little - Rain finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
A punch combination from Rain misses.
Rain misses with a low kick as Horta jumps back.
Good shot there by Rain.
Horta tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Rain moves into the clinch.
Rain is trying to force a seperation but Horta has the dominant position.
Rain blocks an uppercut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Rain breaks the clinch.
Rain misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rain doesn't manage to clinch there - Horta circles away.

Horta closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Horta lands in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Conrad Rain dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Horta waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Rain.
Rain moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Rain connects with a body shot.
Rain fails in his attempt to clinch.
Rain scores with a decent looking hook.
Rain tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Conrad Rain is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rain lands with a kick to the ribs.
Rain bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Rain throws a sloppy head kick and Horta moves out of range easily.

Rain has closed the distance and engaged Horta in a clinch.

Rain breaks from the clinch.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Rain throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice takedown defense from Rain. No joy for Horta on that attempt.

Rain throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Horta.
Horta looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Rain works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Rain connects with a solid leg kick.
Rain is looking to land body kicks.

Horta closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Horta content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Rain is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Horta asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Horta lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Horta decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Rain throws a head kick that Horta semi-blocks.
Horta tries for a takedown but Rain sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Rain throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Rain tries to clinch up.
Horta shoots in but Rain avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Conrad Rain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Horta.

Horta gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rain unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Rain manages to break the clinch.
Some wild striking there from Rain.
Horta fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Rain avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rain thumps Horta with a low kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Rain.
Conrad Rain is winning the standup battle so far.
Horta slips a jab from Rain.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Horta fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rain, pushing him back against the cage.

Horta tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rain just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rain manages to break the clinch.
Rain throws a sloppy head kick and Horta moves out of range easily.
Conrad Rain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horta shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Rain makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Horta gets a clinch.
Rain tries to land a knee to the head but Horta blocks with his arms.
Rain tries to break free but Horta pushes him back against the cage.
Rain using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Horta has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Horta wants a takedown.
Horta lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Horta tries to pull guard but Rain holds him up against the cage and eventually Horta drops back down to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Conrad Rain dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Rain thuds a left hand into Horta's body.

Rain closes the distance and clinches.
Rain trying to control the position but instead, Horta has worked for underhooks and has pushed Rain into the cage.

Rain pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Horta takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Horta fails with a takedown attempt.
Rain goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Rain closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Horta darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Horta lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Horta takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Horta decides to return to a standing position.
Horta moves in looking to clinch but Rain pushes him off.
Rain keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Horta misses with a takedown
and Rain makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Conrad Rain has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Victor Horta.
Rain throws a series of punches but Horta avoids them all with ease.

Horta rushes Rain and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Horta tries to pull guard but Rain won't allow it.
Rain is trying to stall.
Horta has Rain pressed against the cage, preventing Rain from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Rain fakes the leg kick and cracks Horta in the body.

and Horta counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Horta decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Rain's guard.
Rain is looking to stand up but Horta isn't so interested in that idea.

Rain wants to stand and escape but Horta is having none of it.

Rain is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Victor Horta comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rain has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
