PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Elroy Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Neal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bishop comes to the cage accompanied by The Regulator. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elroy Bishop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Neal!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Neal misses with a takedown attempt - Bishop sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bishop avoids a punch combination nicely.

Bishop gets a takedown into half guard.
Bishop not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Bishop throws a strike but Neal avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Bishop stands up over Neal, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Bishop might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bishop wants to pass the guard but Neal is keeping the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bishop shoots in and drives through. Neal sprawls well.
Neal shoots in for a double leg but Bishop sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

and Bishop counters with a single leg into guard. Neal didn't expect that.
Elroy Bishop has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Neal.

Neal has momentary wrist control but Bishop slips an elbow through the middle.

Neal is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bishop tries to bum rush Neal with a series of wild strikes but Neal uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Bishop counters with a single leg into guard. Neal didn't expect that.
Neal wants to sweep here but Bishop controlling him for the moment.
Neal manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Bishop regains half guard.
Neal is trying to control the action in half guard but Bishop is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bishop wants to control but Neal is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Elroy Bishop dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Bishop closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bishop lands in his opponent's guard.
Neal is trying to control the position but Bishop postures up.
Neal keeping moving, preventing Bishop from controlling successfully.
Neal has his hands on Bishop's head, controlling the position.

Neal is controlling Bishop's posture.
Bishop postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bishop with a flurry of punches that miss.
Neal utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Neal has Bishop pulled in close to control his posture.
Neal trying to keep a closed guard but Bishop is proving a slippery customer.
Neal keeping moving, preventing Bishop from controlling successfully.
Bishop is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Bishop stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Neal swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bishop trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Bishop shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Neal manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neal is looking for a triangle but Bishop pushes his legs off easily.
Neal is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Elroy Bishop overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Neal keeping full guard, as Bishop tries to pass.

Bishop throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Neal works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Neal drives through with a takedown into guard.

Neal is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Bishop has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Neal is looking to defend but Bishop has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Neal! Bishop pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Neal taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:51 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Elroy Bishop!
