PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Atkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jordan Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes into a darkened arena with his song building. face the pain kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Atkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jordan Brown!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Steve Montenegro and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown misses with a wild combination.
Atkins will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Atkins shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Brown sprawls well. Brown wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Atkins gets slowly back to his feet.
Atkins looks for a takedown but Brown sprawls well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Atkins fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Brown avoids it really well and circles away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Brown fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Atkins is out of range.
Atkins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Atkins tries for a takedown but Brown circles away easily

and Brown counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Atkins's guard now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Atkins has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Atkins avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Brown pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Atkins is keeping the position for now.
Atkins is controlling Brown's posture.
Brown looking to sit in guard and control but Atkins gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Brown is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Atkins controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Atkins slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Brown keeping moving, preventing Atkins from controlling successfully.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Joe Atkins just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Brown moves away from the strike by Atkins.
Atkins misses with a takedown

Atkins shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Atkins was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Atkins shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Brown is looking for a sweep. Atkins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Atkins changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Brown looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Brown is trying to get back to half guard.
Brown is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Brown is breathing heavily.

Atkins stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Atkins closes the distance looking to clinch

and Brown decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Atkins's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Atkins is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Brown is looking to work some ground and pound but Atkins has wrist control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Atkins takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Brown counters with a nice body shot.

Atkins is trying to control. Brown wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Brown tries to get to full guard but Atkins has control of the leg.

Joe Atkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Atkins throws a body kick, spinning off balance

so Brown counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Atkins is trying to keep Brown in close.
Atkins wants to stand but Brown is controlling the position.

Brown drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brown jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Brown drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Atkins manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Brown has Atkins in his guard.

Brown had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Atkins defends it easily.
Brown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Brown wants to control but Atkins passes easily into half guard.

Atkins is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brown sees it coming and defends easily.

Atkins seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Atkins perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Atkins is looking to take a break and control but Brown is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Brown is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Atkins content to control rather than advance.

Atkins is working for a kimura but Brown is defending it quite comfortably.
Atkins tries to pass to full mount but Brown defends it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Atkins tries to land a front kick but Brown steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Atkins drives through with a takedown into guard.

Atkins throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brown works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Atkins is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Joe Atkins.
I think Atkins has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
