Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shaka Zulu! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nathan Swift! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Swift tries to bum rush Zulu with a series of wild strikes but Zulu uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Swift scores with a shot to the body.
A combination from Swift does no damage. Zulu throws a left and a right that both miss
and Swift counters with a lovely straight right hand!
It looks like Shaka Zulu has been cut. Zulu doesn't succeed with the takedown and Swift counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Swift throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Zulu tries for a takedown but Swift circles away easily and Swift cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Zulu checks the leg kick. Swift changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Zulu looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Zulu is not content to let Swift control the position. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Zulu tries to buck Swift off but Swift is having none of it. Swift is trying to get an arm triangle but Zulu is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Zulu's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Swift decides to take the fight back to the feet. Zulu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Swift with a poor takedown and Zulu counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Swift looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Swift throws a jab but it's blocked by Zulu. Swift stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Zulu. Swift waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Zulu. Swift uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Zulu. Zulu lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Swift circles away quickly and effectively. Zulu walks into a straight right hand from Swift.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zulu dips to his left and cracks Swift with an uppercut! Swift doesn't succeed with the takedown and Zulu counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Swift is lucky that one didn't land flush. Shaka Zulu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Swift. Swift is looking to chop away at Zulu's legs. Zulu throws a looping overhand right but Swift ducks down to avoid it. Zulu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Zulu lands with a kick to the temple. Swift shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Swift changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zulu tries to avoid it but Swift manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zulu to the ground. Zulu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Zulu misses with a double jab
enabling Swift to counter with a crisp jab. Swift throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Zulu shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Swift as he avoids it easily. Zulu throws a push kick but Swift slaps the foot to one side. The crowd cheers as Swift lands an impressive looking overhand right. Zulu doesn't seem phased though. Zulu throws a sloppy head kick and Swift moves out of range easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zulu thows a left - swing and a miss! Good leg kick by Zulu there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Swift swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Zulu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zulu instigates a clinch. Swift pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Swift misses with the combination.
Swift throws a leg kick and Zulu counters with a three punch combo that has Swift backing up. Swift nods at Zulu to acknowledge the strikes. A looping hook to the body misses from Swift. Zulu does a little dance to reset his feet. Zulu throws a sloppy head kick and Swift moves out of range easily. Swift digs a good body shot into Zulu's ribs. Good leg kick by Zulu there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Zulu. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery. Zulu shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Swift is trying to defend but Zulu finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Zulu is breathing heavily. Zulu is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Swift slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Swift keeping full guard, as Zulu tries to pass. Swift is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Swift is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! Swift wants to control the pace but Zulu is squirming around nicely. Swift bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Zulu shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Swift manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Zulu trying to control but Swift is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zulu won't allow Swift to sweep him here. Swift pulls Zulu in close to his closed guard and prevents Zulu from doing any damage or advancing position. Swift's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Zulu is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Zulu wants to control from the top but Swift keeps moving. Zulu slips nicely into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Swift tries to roll over but Zulu keeps him under control. Swift has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zulu is working away from the top position though. Swift wants to get back to full guard. Swift is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Swift misses with a jab, cross combination.

Zulu changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Swift looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Swift is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Zulu has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Swift! Zulu tries to control but Swift wriggling away. Zulu goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Swift turns into him and now he's in Zulu's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Zulu has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Swift can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Zulu looking for a guillotine here but Swift defends easily.
Swift controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

and Swift counters with a nice uppercut. Zulu lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Swift tries to work over Zulu's front leg with a kick but Zulu checks it. Zulu shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Swift napping and manages to drive through into side control! Zulu lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Zulu trying to control the position but Swift is working away. Zulu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Swift, who protects the arm well. Zulu working away. Swift is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Zulu is staying active. Zulu tries for a kimura but Swift is defending well. Swift is trying to improve his position. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Zulu moves forwards but Swift connects with a nice, crisp jab. Zulu takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Swift fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Swift throws a leg kick but Zulu sees it coming and checks it nicely. Swift dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Swift shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Swift showed some decent athleticism there. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Swift trying to control the action but Zulu is working from the bottom.

Swift throws a right and a left that both miss. Shaka Zulu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice uppercut lands for Swift. That snapped Zulu's head back.

No, Swift has managed to get both his arms back between Zulu's legs - danger averted. Zulu trying to control the position.

Swift is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Zulu lets go of the hold and Swift can pop his arm back in it's socket.
