9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ben McEnsie! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McEnsie throws a series of strikes that have OBrien backpedaling.
It looks like Joe OBrien has been cut. McEnsie misses with a wild combination.
McEnsie slips a jab from OBrien. McEnsie blocks a jab. Joe OBrien seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. OBrien lands a body shot.
McEnsie misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
McEnsie looks to land a combination but OBrien avoids it well. OBrien with a hook. McEnsie ducks under a wild hook from OBrien. OBrien is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. OBrien is holding on to half guard well. OBrien wants to control but McEnsie is keeping busy and won't allow it. OBrien pushes McEnsie off and gets back to his feet. A lazy left from OBrien finds it's target. McEnsie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. OBrien throws a jab when McEnsie was well out of range. McEnsie tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. A looping hook to the body misses from McEnsie. OBrien does a little dance to reset his feet. OBrien throws out a token jab with nothing on it. McEnsie slips a jab from OBrien. McEnsie throws out a powerful jab. OBrien scores with a jab to the jaw. McEnsie closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. McEnsie looks gassed! McEnsie wants to lay and pray for a moment but OBrien keeps working. OBrien works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McEnsie looking to pass the guard. OBrien keeping moving, preventing McEnsie from controlling successfully. OBrien is looking to stand up but McEnsie isn't so interested in that idea. McEnsie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. OBrien trying to control the position here. OBrien looking to sweep here. No luck so far. McEnsie trying to control the position from guard on top but OBrien is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McEnsie is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A big left from OBrien misses. Joe OBrien is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. McEnsie takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
McEnsie looks to land a right hand but OBrien moved out of range. OBrien swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McEnsie counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps OBrien thinking. OBrien throws a right and a left that McEnsie avoids nicely. McEnsie avoids the body shot from OBrien.
OBrien lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but McEnsie circles away quickly and effectively. McEnsie throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. OBrien scores with the left hand. McEnsie knows he should have avoided that one. OBrien slips a jab and a cross from McEnsie.
OBrien misses with a straight right. OBrien lands a slapping body shot.
A big right from McEnsie misses. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McEnsie ducks under a wild hook from OBrien. OBrien throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McEnsie sees it coming and avoids it easily. A head kick misses from McEnsie. OBrien is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. McEnsie takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
OBrien lands a jab to the nose. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joe OBrien dominated that round. The cut man is working on Joe OBrien's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
McEnsie tries for a takedown but OBrien sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. OBrien scores with a crisp jab that stopped McEnsie in his tracks. OBrien throws a shot to the body.
OBrien uses good head movement to avoid the hook from McEnsie. A slow jab from OBrien misses its intended target. OBrien looks to land a left hand but McEnsie moved out of range nicely. OBrien lands a nice hook to McEnsie's body. McEnsie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. McEnsie gets cracked there but stands up to it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! OBrien thows a body shot but no joy. OBrien scores with a body shot.
OBrien lands with a cross. McEnsie drops his hands momentarily and OBrien takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. OBrien cracks McEnsie with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! McEnsie looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can OBrien finish him?
McEnsie is rocked! McEnsie leaves his chin hanging out and OBrien seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! McEnsie crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
